Frontline for ticks?
« on: March 20, 2009, 01:53:23 PM »
We are off to Devon next month again and it was after our visit there in April last year that Woofie got his first tick!

I only worm the dogs regularly I don't use flea stuff unless they get them (which they did at the end of summer last year).

I thought it would be worth doing before our holiday next month.  I saw a programme on lymes disease and ticks last night and wondered if it protected against this as well.

Has anybody got any recommendations please?

Frontline is for ticks you have to use it monthly, as it only works for a month! so needs applying monthly.  There might be other stuff out there, that others might be able to advise.  Oh yes, it's a lot cheaper online!

Have a nice holiday.  :shades:

Frontline once a month prevents ticks. They'll sometimes still latch on but will die and fall off within a day or so.

Mum to cockers Lily, Lance and Krumble and lurchers Arwen and Lyra. Hooman sister to Pepper, 13.

I used www.petfleas.co.uk which I think John (johndoran) recommended the other day - I found them the cheapest - no P&P and I could pay by paypal.

Hate to say this after you have just ordered, but Frontline won't prevent the tics from attaching to your pets, so in theory they will still be at risk from Lymmes.  The only effective way to prevent tics attaching is Advantix, that stops them attaching to the animal.  It is strong stuff, you have to really weigh up the risk of tics I guess :-\  Tricky one.
