Woofie got bit by another dog

First day of the holiday in Devon and we had only been here an hour and Woofie was whingeing to go to the beach (I know it sounds silly but he knew where we were).

It is a two minute walk and just as we got near to the beach coming the other way are three people all with a dog on a lead.  Paul was holding Woofies lead.  One of the dogs lunged at Woofie and the person holding its lead dropped it and it got hold of Woofie.  It was all over in a matter of seconds, the other person grabbed the lead, muttered sorry and they all walked off.

Woofie has a single puncture wound to his cheek which bled quite a lot but didn't put him off enjoying himself on the beach.  (I would post pictures but I can't upload to Photobucket for some reason).

I have cleaned the wound with a alcohol wipe and put antiseptic cream on it - is there anything else I should do?

poor Woofie - what an awful start to your holiday  :'( :'( :'(

I would say the sea water would have helped, bit of free saline  ;)  Keep an eye on it as bites can become very infected very quickly.  Bathe in saline or diluted hibiscrub and see how it goes.  The antiseptic cream can't hurt either  ;)

Check out where the local vets is just in case anyway.....we never know where the emergency docs are when we're on holiday but we always know where the vet is  ph34r

Oh gosh, poor Woofie and what a shock for you! I don't have any advice I'm afraid, just wanted to offer comiserations, what a rotten start to your hols. Glad that Woofie doesn't seem unduly perturbed though...poor wee mite  ;)

I have already got the Vets number and it is in the holiday accommodation information (as it is dog friendly).

He is absolutely fine in himself - a bit tired as he went a bit crazy on the beach as he loves it so much bless him  :luv:

It all happened so quickly and I suppose it could have been a lot worse but it was still a bit of a shock, apparently more for me than Woofie!

I will keep bathing it and keep an eye on it.
