even though my vets is closed I was given a lift with him in his bed by one of their receptionists who lives nearby and they opened up for me so he can go to be cremated tomorrow

Am so sorry to hear this. one of mine died in my arms before I could do anything to get help. did exactly the same as you, put her to bed till morning. believe me it is better than coming home and finding you was not there  when they needed you most

So sorry to read this Penny - I was really hoping that Wilf would pull through this  :'( :'(

In a way it is nice that he just died quietly at home and you didn't have to make that awful final decision for him.   :-\
