Poem about our beloved Oldies, tissues needed
« on: August 12, 2015, 09:01:04 PM »
Tissues at the ready, this made me cry  :'(   but for those of us with our lovely Oldies it is so true but heart breaking at the same time  :luv: :luv:

If when you look at me, you only see a white face and cloudy eyes, a burden or a hassle… you have missed out on the best part of me.
I am loving, loyal protective and kind.
You are my one and only, and my tail will wag for you up until my last breath.
As a Senior, I have been with you long enough to know what you want without a word being said. I know when you are happy, I know when you are sad. I know when you need me to place a paw on you.
I know when you snuggle up to me and your heartbeat speeds up, it’s because you are fighting back tears as you see what years have done to my body.
But inside I am still just a puppy content with your love and your shelter.
Love me until the very end for I am a gift. With each wag of my tail, I will say Thank you.

That brought tears to my eyes  :'(
My girls are nearly Oldies (they have just had their 8th birthday) but each day I spend with them is precious.  I can see signs of age with Marley as some days her arthritis causes her pain  :'(  So far Stevie isn't showing signs of her age but she does have to go in to have a fatty lump removed in the next few months.
I am a bit sentimental when I see Oldies out and about and I must admit I am more drawn to them for a cuddle than to puppies.
There is just something about Oldies where the spirit is so willing yet their bodies let them down  :'(
I can't type any more as eyes filling up again.
Max (GSP)  always in my heart

what a beautiful poem,  must admit to shedding a few tears on this one,
my beautiful oldie Bracken was 14 last week, she is a bit slow and creaky, but still loves rock pooling at Looe and whilst no longer chases  her ball, she gives it a good 'barking' to

I know each day is precious with her, this poem is so true, especially the bit about a wag of the tail

lovely

I think that is just beautiful. Pepper is relatively young at 5 but i have to say i find the bond grows deeper as he gets older.

Although not a cocker, I look at my beloved Suki and wonder how long we will have her for.  She is almost 11 now.
She has slowed down loads - in fact we joke that unless anyone comes to visit, she only get up from her bed 3 times a day to turn round and face the opposite direction.  Her eyes are a little cloudy.

She needs reminding to get up and go outside for her business.
She is increasingly grumpy with Alfie and Dexter and doesn't tolerate visiting dogs much any more.

However, she seems happy enough in herself and certainly doesn't seem to be in any kind of pain.  I love her so very much and cannot imagine life without her so just don't think about it.

We have been out this morning with Alfie and Dexter this morning, leaving her at home and she was so pleased to see us when we got home, I think she forgot her age for a while.

Oldies are definitely very, very special.  Eyes leaking after reading this lovely poem - thanks for sharing.
Penny,   Dexter (cavalier x poodle), Alfie (Whippet cross)  and  Maximus the cocker spaniel!!

RIP my 2 most gorgeous cocker girls - Buffy and Harriet - both waiting for me at the bridge. Joined by my beloved Josie taken too soon and Suki aged 13 :(
