Title: Whistle training
Post by: Slave of Baxter on March 13, 2007, 12:01:33 PM

Apologies if this is in the wrong area of the forum...

I want to start training Baxter to a whistle and wanted to know are there 'standard' whistle calls for certain actions?

e.g. one short burst for 'stop'... two for 'sit' etc?

Or do you just do what suits you and your dog?

A relative goes beating and I'd like to be able to take Baxter along.

Hi there  -  nice to hear you would like to work Baxter

Standard whistles for a working spaniel are

One long blast for sit/stop                   -  peeeeeep

two very short pips for turn                 -   pip-pip

a series of pips for recall                           pip-pip-pip-pip-pip

Thanks so much, just what I wanted to know!

Baxter is showxworker and very birdie, so I think it would be just the 'outlet' he needs!  I think he will pick it up very quickly, I am probably the one that needs the training!

I use one pip for "sit", a long blast for "stop and lie down" and three pips for recall.

Unfortunately, Jarvis doesn't pay much attention to any of them... :(
