Title: I'm Worried About Indie (disgusting Topic)
Post by: shonajoy on November 18, 2004, 07:22:00 PM
He usually poos first thing in the morning, but so far today, nothing. It's not for lack of trying - he was straining this morning, and nothing. He's eating and drinking ok, he's a picky eater normally anyway, so I took him for a good couple of hours wallk this afternoon, and still no joy.

I thought a good long walk plus a huge drink would help get things moving, but though he tried about five times, nothing. The last time he tried he scooted like they do when their anal glands need emptying - he's never had a problem with these before, and gets bran daily - and would anal gland problems make him constipated?

All this coupled with the fact hubby has been called away to Aberdeen for work, and I'm own my own being paranoid about my Indie - I don't want to embarrass myself by calling out the emergency vet, because he's constipated, especially as I work there now   :o

Awww poor Indie pops :(   Perhaps a bit of warm goats milk with a dash of honey in will help Shona :)  Be sure to use the spaniel bowl though or gently put a scrunichie around Indies ears on top of his head, or getting the honey out will be a nightmare <_<   Let us know how he gets on poor baby, I am sure he will be fine though

Shona sorry I don't really have any experience of constipation (with my dog) but I would mention it to the vet tomorrow because it really can't be nice for him ;) try not to worry Im sure he will get sorted out soon take care

I posted this a few months ago, and It still makes me laugh when I think about it.
I'm not trivializing your problem or anything, but your post reminded me so much of this incident!

One of my girls, well both of them really like to empty the bin all over the kitchen floor, then attempt to eat the contents.

So we empty it a couple of times a day, and when we go out.

One day, to my dismay I got back and realised I'd forgotten to empty it when I saw the remnants of tea bags a couple of apples and bits of black plastic all over.

We cleaned up and forgot all about it.

The next day, Livvy, who can poo for England seemed to be having a little trouble, squatting and pushing and crying and this went on for about 5 minutes.

I can't imagine what the neighbours thought if they saw what happened next.

I checked Livvy's bum and there was this black stuff hanging from it, only about a half inch, so I had a feel and it was black plastic. So I pulled and eased ever so gently, and it turned out to be a six inch peice of bin liner. When I finally got it out, it was explosive to say the least, what with the tea bags and the apples.

We did get her checked out at the vet and he ok'd her.

I laugh now but I was nearly panicking at the time.

edited to add, I hope everything is ok.
we don't have a bin anymore, its a carrier bag on the draining board!

Thanks guys, panic over, we have pooed.

Emma - I gave him honey and cows milk last night, and he loved it, so maybe that helped the huge poo this morning! Thanks hon.

Thanks Edith, and Karen, lol, what a story! He finally did one this morning, and thankfully no problems doing it. I had visions of clothes pegs, socks, money, coming out the other end even though we're careful he's a right scamp for stealing things sometimes.

I think working at the vets makes me so paranoid, have relaxed now, cheers

Shoina xx
