My dog has absolutely no interest in this.

I'd like to ask those with the problem two questions to see if my guess is right:

1. do the dogs that do this, eat a mainly kibble diet? Or is there any other common diet factor here.
2. how much challenge and use to these get for their noses.

Dogs are very quick to spot something that rewarded them and repeat the behaviour.
I'd guess this starts with getting a kick out of an unusual smell or taste.

Once learnt this will be harder to stop than if it never starts of course.

We live near the new forest and at least once a week we try and walk there, Alfie likes nothing more than munching on a fresh Pony deposit! Makes me feel sick and I have to chase him off it..... RANK!! :005: >:(

With Murphy it comes down to one type of poo. Poo that comes from dogs fed on Bakers. This rubbish dog food is not digested properly and as far as Murphy is concerned, it is food. He isn't interested in any other type.

Unfortunately, one my neighbours has 6 (six!!!!) Spaniels, 1 wcs and 5 springers. He never picks poo up and it is everywhere.  >:D
