Fluff
« on: April 24, 2017, 06:13:43 PM »
Over winter Millies coat has developed fluffy patches. Her normal coat is a lovely sleek black but the fluff has a brown tinge to it. This can be seen in the picture below. The groomer wants to run a long shaver over the fluff without touching her normal coat but I don't want a shaver of any description going anywhere near her.

Will this coat fall out on its own or is there a better way to get rid of it?

If it's brown that suggests to me that it is very old hair. Henry's fur goes a rusty brown on the ends, and when he comes back from the groomers (where he is clipped) he is all black again. Maybe try the Coat King?

Thanks Londongirl. I have tried a Coat King bit the fluff is that fine that it doesn't really have any effect at all.

There is a chocolate cocker not far back in her line. Argyll Warrior who was a very prominent wcs stud dog.

This is where I thought the red/brown tint was coming from.

What a majestic name. Our previous black cocker had tinges of red fur  similar to Millie, - one of her parents was gold.

I got a silicon groomer from pets at home which has been making  a good job of getting rid of Colbys fluffy hair.

The fluffy hair wants stripping out dont clip it

Easiest way is to use a fine comb with a handle such as a Spratts 73 using your thumb to help grip the coat as you use the comb to help ease the fluffy hair out.  You can also use rubber thimbles to help grip the fluffy coat and again pull the coat a little to ease the fluffy coat out.

Grooming chalk can help rub a little into the fluffy hair then again using a comb or finger & thumb ease the coat out, i also find the fluffy hair combs out easier when the coat is wet i normally do it whilst i have conditioner in the coat before I rinse it out coat kings are good as well used when the coat is wet but a fine comb is good as well.

Hope that helps at worst i would thin but dont clip it .
