You may recall I posted here last year about Rupert's foot.
My wonderful Rupert got over that and bounced back. He was however diagnosed with heart problems at that time. In March of this year he suffered with acute pancreatitis which he recovered from and bounced back from.
At the end of April he was on holiday in Wales ambling along the beaches and thoroughly enjoying himself.
Last Saturday he woke up and was unable to put his left rear foot on the ground. We took him to the vet who gave him tramadol because of his many problems he could not have anti-inflammatory drugs. By Monday he was fine again.
On Wednesday he could not put the other foot on the ground (the original one was ok). We took him back to the vets who decided to do x-rays the following day and upped the dose of tramadol.
Early evening he became very distressed and obviously in a great deal of pain. The vets admitted him and put him on a morphine drip.
He continued to get worst and finally on Saturday am we had a call from our vets saying that both back legs had gone now, one had swollen to be 3 times its size, he had a temperature, would not eat, would not drink and there was nothing else they could do for him.
We had the option to take the RVC on Monday but we both decided with the vet that it was time.
He was so poorly he could not even wag his tail on Friday or Saturday.
He did take some comfort from the fact that we were there and was very peaceful.
RIP Rupert Bear.
