Can "cetirizine hydrohloride" be given to dogs for itching ?
the ingredients are as above 10mg,  lactose monohydrate, mize starch,pregelatinsed starch,

 While I don't know the answer I would go and buy Piriton (Chlorphenamine) either tabs or syprup - this is certainly used with dogs and prescribed by vets, the confusion is that there is Piriteze which is cetrizine.

Am sure if you search Piriton in the search at top right of Cockers Online it will throw up other threads with dose etc.

Found this re certizine.  Seems much lower dose than strength you mention

It mentions Benadryl............I wouldn't use as what is sold here in UK is not the same.

Thanks for your reply's, I tried "Piriton" but it didn't seem to have any affect.     She seems to get this itching every late August/early September for the last 4 years, it lasts about 2 months so she must be allergic to something.   As she has only broken her skin once in all that time I think I give nothing, only its unpleasant for her & us to see her scratching 
I am prescribed Cetirizine & wondered if I could give it to her.
In the artical it mentions a large dose of Omega 3, does anyone give this ?    she has cod-liver-oil each morning when I have it.

Thought the article might be worth reading, when it first came out it was caller Zirtek
in UK, not sure how eay it is to break the tablet up though.

Hope she improves..............I get hayfever and it is always early in the year - just around blossom on trees, while OH is always Juneish and his eyes are really bothered rather than sneezing.

Is there any allergy shampoos out there that might help too.

Phoebe gets a bit itchy too so my vet told me to get Boots own allergy relief 4mg tablets

Thanks............I tried the true Piriton first, then Asda's own so next we will get some Boots's own.   We can but try !!

NO..........how do I check for that ?   Is it the same as for fleas ?   When we went to the vets last time, the vet checked for fleas & she was all clear.

I was thinking harvest mites too.  I read yesterday to use Thornit powder between the toes and on their belly where they are itching.

I suppose it would be easier if sprinkled on some cotton wool first for the belly.
