Working/ Show
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:24:50 PM »
Hello
Please can somebody tell me or point to the right place to find out if Charlie is show working or a bit of both? I am not sure sometimes he looks quite like the working cockers on here and sometimes not he is very active, but not very good at seeking things?

Do you have his 5 generation pedigree? That is the best way to tell.  :-\

He looks to me maybe a bit of both  ;) in the recent pics his face and body shape looks quite working to me but the 'before' shots from last months grooming looks like his coat was very show like  :-\

if you can post some names from his pedigree that should give you the answer   :D

I'm certainly no expert but he hs show champs in his pedigree (SHCH) and a lot of the names are new to me so I would assume a fair few of them are working pedigrees. I notice that an offspring of one of his grandparents are affected by one of the cocker problems though after a search on Google!

I only recognise Bitcon, Whipspan, and Courtmaster, as show types but I'm no expert.
Ask not what your cocker can do for you, but ask what you can do for your cocker!!

There are no working Cockers in this pedigree - all the names are either show breeding or show-type commercial breeding

Thanks for all your help. Glad to hear he is all show, he would be a rubbish worker :D
I have looked up about the PRA I will just have to keep everything crossed that he has not got this. He is temperamental enough with sight.
Than you again for solving this for me

If you're worried about him developing PRA, you could get him tested (optigen) to see if he is 'affected'?  Or an eye vet can screen the eyes to look for signs of the disorder, and can pick up on the early stages of it's development before the problem becomes obvious?
