Gone off food!
« on: July 02, 2007, 09:58:06 PM »
Over the past week i've noticed that Macy isn't eating much of her food, she'll have a couple of mouthfulls and then thats it for the day! She looks healthy enough and doesnt seem bothered by it. Someone told me it's because it's summer and some dogs feel as if if they dont need that much to eat?? Was just wondering if this was true?

I havent heard of that food but i'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon to help you out!

As for whats the best food, it is more about personal choice ;) but you could do a search in the Feeding section as i'm sure there will be some suggestions there!

Is Macy spayed? If not she could be coming in season soon.

Poppy has always been on JWB, a few months ago it was hit or miss whether she ate her breakfast, but she would eat if you hand feed or she would eat it out of her kong... ::)
I also used to mix pilchard/mackerel/sardines in with her tea 3 times a week, but when there was no fish mixed in she didn't want it.

This went on for a long time until a few weeks ago she had a bad dose of sickness and diarrhoea, 2 jabs, a 4 day course of anti-b's and a very empty tummy later, she has not turned her nose up anymore...

Now I give her 1/3 for breakfast and 2/3 for tea and when she's eaten all of her tea she gets her fish for dessert... ;)

Thanks for all your help!
Her feeding routine: Well, she hasnt got one, i give her her breakfast in the morning and she just leaves it there and eats it when she feels like it throughout the day, but lately she's only having a couple of mouthfulls a day,and of course any leftovers we have. She seems fine in herself and has plenty of energy!
She came on heat about 3 months ago! Very strange!  :-\

There you have it!! She has no urgency about her food because it is there whenever she wants it. If you picked at food all day long would you have an appetite for 2 main meals a day?  ;)

If after you've put her food down she hasn't eaten it in 10-15 minutes lift the bowl and that's her lot until the next meal time - she will not starve.

This has been discussed on COL quite a lot so if you do a search you should find the threads interesting.
