If it should be

I,ve just read the rainbow bridge poem(sniff sniff :cry: ) and it reminded me of a poem we used to give out at the vets when an owner had to have their dog put to sleep. It goes like this...

If it should be I grow frail and weak,
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cant be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
Dont let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come will hold no fears,
You'll not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.

I know in time, you too will see,
It is kindness you do me,
Although my tail it's last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you,
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We,ve been close, we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Andrea,

We have that poem on the wall in our waiting room. I lobbied to put it as far away from me as possible :cry:  I can't even get past the first line without welling up and my old dog hasn't even died :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

Andrea, I shall copy and save that and maybe one day when I have to make that difficult decision it might make me feel a little bit better.

A friend of mine has told me a quote that she has always tried to bear in mind....

My mum still feels guilty about having to have her poor old collie put to sleep years a go, so thankyou Andrea I will be printing this out for her and I'm sure this will give her some comfort
