In a word no, especially if it was a pup as there is no guarantee (no matter how good the pedigree) that it will fulfill potential.

I wouldnt be able to, nor would I tbh.  But I would not show a dog so I guess maybe those were from very good show lines?  I think it is very expensive  :o but maybe I am out of touch.

i wouldnt personally  :o  if its just for a pet! it seems a very silly price, what were the reasons for the pup being that expensive???  even with v good breeding you cant guarantee a show winning animal if thats the reason for the price?

I wouldn't for a puppy. However, there is one dog that I've wanted for 4 years now and if a grand was what it took to get him, I would shell out.

There are a few small breeds that are well over that price, Maltese for example! And yes i would pay it - and to be truthful i dont think it will be long before they (cockers) get to that price! But i dont understand why a normal little cocker would cost that much? Is it gold plated?  :005:

:o That's steep no matter how good the pedigree ;) If the pup was bought as a show prospect not just as a pet, it's still steep as like Michele says, no breeder can tell how the pup will turn out. By asking such a high price, they're giving their buyers high expectations which may never be fulfilled. I'm guessing this must be a pup of one of the less common colours as there are always people willing to pay more for something that's described as "rare".

Not Cockers, Sarah? You kind of expect it in toy breeds (where they only have one or two in a litter) or Bulldogs maybe but not Cockers .....

I wouldnt pay it if it was just one or two breeders that were selling them at that price - but if the going price was that, then yes i would.

yes ive seen english bull dogs going for £1500 odd!

There is a large park near where I live which I do not go to very often because the local vet (now retired) used to warn against it as he used to say that so many dogs go there other dogs were always picking illnesses up.  Don't know if it was true but it stuck in my mind so I don't go much.  Anyway a couple of years ago I was cutting through there on my way to a country park and met a couple with a bulldog puppy.  He was very cute, I asked how old he was and they said 9 weeks old.  I asked them if he should be out yet mixing with other dogs and they said no, but he was driving them mad at home so they had brought him out.  I said you do not see many bulldogs and they said they were not surprised as he cost £2,000.  They had paid £2,000 for a puppy and then not only taken him out when it wasn't safe for him, but were letting him run around in a park full of other dogs.

Funnily enough, I have never seen this puppy since - until today.  I met them again at the nearby shopping centre and, obviously, the puppy is now fully grown, but with them they also had a new bulldog puppy.   I asked them if the puppy was related to the older one but they said no, so they are obviously happy to pay a lot of money for a puppy (twice!).
