I decided earlier this year that I was going to train for and run a half marathon.
I did a bit of training in the summer and was getting into it when school started again and I needed to do my training in the morning or afternoon i.e. walkies time.
So, I decided to run around Daisy's and my usual walking route on the Downs.
Daisy came along and kept up without any problem (3 miles at first).
The next few times I ran a different route without her and on other days stuck to walking around our normal route with her.
About the third time I took Daisy along running she obviously knew what was about to happen. It must have been my running gear as she wouldn't have known if we were going to walk or run.
Well, off I set and Daisy sniffs for about 100 yards, then just stops.
And barks at me.
Constantly.
I decide to carry on (as she always follows me everywhere).
I ran on about 200 yards and turned to look back.
Daisy had come to the top of the hill so she could see me and had started barking again.
So I ran back (she wagged her tail) and I put her on the lead (she stopped wagging her tail)
I started running with her on the lead thinking she would be ok a bit further.
She kept up with me and i stopped and let her off the lead.
Off I ran again.
She watched me go then barked, turned around and off she sprinted back towards the car. So there I was sprinting to catch her before she reached the road.
The next time I tried a new tactic.
Daisy's favourite walk is along the beach, which is divided by goynes.
Sometimes I walk along the prom whilst she sprints down to the sea, paddles, chases seagulls then sprints back up the steps, follows me to the next steps then runs down and does the same thing. If the tide is out she runs along the beach and follows me from there.
I thought I could run along the prom whilst she did her stuff on the beach.
Well anyway, we set off, she runs along with me realise swhat's happening, stops and barks again. I carrry on, she follows me. We reach the end of the seafront and turn to go back. Run along and reach where we parked. I wanted to carry on a bit further but no, Little miss stubborn ears decides she's going to the car so off she sprints again. Cue another mad dash to catch her.
So, I've decided to become a sprinter.
Well actually, I just walk with Daisy and have given up the idea of the half marathon.
Anyway, I feel that this time of the day is her time and I'll do whatever she enjoys.
And walking and sniffing it is!
Does anyone want to buy a pair of nearly new trainers?
