advice needed for vomiting Holly asap please
« on: January 24, 2012, 03:40:09 PM »
Hi all, I think i'm just after some advice and support as I panicing a little about holly.

Holly is 2 years old spayed perfectly healthy amazing puplet who has never been ill.  I took her and Henry out for a walk yesterday around 3pm in the woods where we usually go and they were both off lead as usual I don't think she ate anything she shouldn't have done but she wasn't in my visual field all the time so I'm not too sure.

Yesterday she was just dozing after her walk as usual and then I fed them about 5pm with their usual royal canine dried food but we added a little bit of home made onion gravy and bits of lamb from the Sunday roast that was left over, she was then sick about half an hour later and then sick about 3 more times before bedtime.

They normally sleep downstairs in their crates but because she was ill i let them sleep on our bed and through the night she was sick about 5 more times but there is obviously nothing left to be sick on so it was just spit.  She is feeling really sorry for herself she has had a little bit of water but is just knocked out on the sofa now and she still keeps retching but obviously there is nothing to be sick on.  I'm a real worry wart as my dogs are my world, do you think I need to take her to the vet?  should I try and get her to drink some more water through a syringe or what?  What food if any do you think i should offer her?

Any advice? ideas? or am i panicing for nothing  :'(

I'm no expert but i would be making sure she's drinking or she could dehydrate if shes been sick alot... you could always phone the vet for advice if your worried but she may just have a bug  is she toileting ok? and although she's probably tired from it all is she ok in herself? If she continues to try and be sick then i would call the vet if she were mine  :luv:

Hope she's much better soon, its always a worry when they're ill.

Based on my recent experience with Barney I would take her straight to the vet.  Don't want to panic you but he'd chewed a piece of wood and it was blocking his intestines.  He had very similar symptoms to Holly and we were also asked if he could have eaten anything dangerous for dogs.

Agreed - I would take her to the vet immediately! Hope it's nothing serious but best to be safe.

Personally if she looks ill then I'd get her checked out its the only way you'll have peace of mind.

all checked out and she has a temperature and the vet thinks it may be some type of pancreatis which i'm sure sounds far worse than it is, she told us cockers are very suseptible to it if they eat fatty foods and i gave her some lamb from the Sunday roast which may have been a little fatty for her.

She had an anti-biotic injection and an anti-emetic injection and i've been given a 20ml syringe to get fluids into her and i can feed her chicken and white rice tomorrow but if no better we go back.  I feel a little less freaked out now i know she's not dying (it's amazing what goes through your mind).

Hopefully she will start to feel better soon, thanks for all the advice  :luv:

Just checking in on Holly and pleased to see your update.

I'm so sorry if my previous post sounded abrupt - I was just about to log off and go out when I saw your post and wanted to reply quickly.  I think my emotions are still a bit close to the surface.

Will keep an eye out for Holly's progress xx
