He's here!
« on: October 03, 2012, 06:04:21 PM »
Just got home after a 5 our round trip to pick up our new baby boy...

...he's gorgeous!  :luv: :luv: :luv:

8 week old chocolate roan - we've decided to call him Teddy. :luv:

He was so amazingly good in the car - only weed on me right at the end of the trip, after drinking lots because it was so warm in the car.

So far, he has had something to eat, met our cats and chickens and had a poo in the garden  :005:

Our 2 children and big dog are due home any time, so more excitement for him. :D

I can't get over how tiny he is..and how beautiful.

I'll post photos when I can (it may take a while as our laptop is away at the fixers and I am having to use my netbook).

Welcome Teddy!

Our Jem is a chocolate roan, and if he is anything like her, he will end up looking like a teddy!

Thank you!

It's ridiculous but I feel so stressed!
Can't decide whether to let him sleep upstairs in our room, or downstairs in the kitchen.
He's crying when he can't see us -even when we're in another room he can get to -ignore or reassure him?

I'm so tired after our journey, I can't think straight. Help!

Well you need to think where you are going to want him in the future - if you let him in your room the first night I bet that is where he will want to be all other nights! When we got Clover we settled her in her own crate downstairs, and put one of my old, worn but not washed t-shirts in with her. Left the radio on low for her, but no lights. She squeaked a bit when we left her but we did not come down to her - until very early morning to take her out for a wee and a poo. Did not speak to her then except to say 'go quick' and  'good girl' when she performed. Then straight back to her crate without further ado.  On the other hand, if you have him in your room he will be able to let you know he needs to go out and will probably settle better! I prefer the crate downstairs method personally but I know a LOT of people on here let their dogs sleep in their rooms and on their beds. For me, upstairs is my cats' territory, a dog free place, so there was no contest really. Clover HAD to sleep downstairs!  :005:
To know them is to love them.....

My Meg was allowed to sleep in my room in a crate for the first few nights, then I put the crate in the kitchen
