Working or Show?!?!
« on: July 28, 2007, 07:45:02 PM »
Btw...not sure if this is posted in the right place...wasn't sure where to post it!

Ollie is now 18months old, and I know cockers have loads of energy but he is always on the go!

He's always alert and never seems to settle always trying to find something and has to know whats going on, he follows me everywhere!

So I was just wondering in anyones opinion could he maybe have some working blood in him...if you know what I mean?

One of my show type cockers is like this - he reminds me of the duracell bunny

If you haven't already done so, you could post Ollie's pedigree on the pedigree research board and that would say what lines he has behind him
Dallas ( 10) & Disney ( 9 )

My last show cocker was exactly the same (I thought it was normal and was always surprised when I saw show cockers standing still  :005:)... He stayed like that until he died at near 6 yrs old - I kept expecting him to slow down but it never happened...  :005: :005: He was great fun though and fantastic to have around  :D Good luck!

I just looked at Ollies pedigree and noticed a few Jafares in there. I know that they are quite a commercial kennel and that they did sometimes mix working cockers in. Bracken has an element of working cocker in her and this came in on the Jafare lines. If you look at a five generation pedigree you might find it there.

Thanks for that, I was searching his pedigree online and the majority of his family tree that I've found so far is Jafare.

He's always on the go during the day and then after about 8pm he's flat asleep until someone gets up in the morning
but he is a very restless sleeper and he sleep walks too!!  :005:

I have one of each and they both follow me everywhere but Harvey the working cocker needs alot more exercise than Murphy the show one. They bboth settle down though after a good run and usually Murphy is the one who sleep walks. Hope this helps. :D

Woody has a few Jafares in him:-

Jafare Golden Rainbow
Jafare Shards of Silver
Jafare Shades of CHestnut
Jafare Velvet Coppelia

Golden Rainbow and Velvet Coppelia have a FT CH (Wernffrwd Cymro Du) in their 2nd generation of their pedigree. They maybe more as I can only identify him as working by the FT CH.Woody is like the duracell bunny too  :005: He never stops  :D

Bracken has a couple of FTCH on the Jafare lines, but she will happily sleep all day. I think both show and working cockers can either be all day sleepers or duracell bunnies..

I remember reading a thread somewhere that some dogs don't learn how to relax. Maybe you could find something like that to try and get him to settle sometimes..

Buddy is 1/4 worker, but as far as energy levels are concerned he mainly takes after the sloth side of his family. He has his busy moments, and his attitude is pure worker when he is in the mood to really go all out for his ball retreival, but he sleeps.  Lots!

What brand of food does Ollie eat? I have recently seen for myself what a HUGE difference a change of food can make in behaviour and energy levels  ;)

Bonnee changed from a hyper, noisy, toddler-on-e-numbers coiled spring  >:D, to a chilled, laid-back, sleepy softie  all in the space of a week  :luv:
