Working Vs Showing Cockers

As you can probably tell I haven't owned a Cocker yet though I am planning on getting on in spring. I have come across the terms "working" and "showing" Cockers and I have seen pictures of working Cockers, and I can see they look a bit different, but apart from that, could anyone tell me what the difference is? They are both English Cocker Spaniel I take it?

Confused!
