I've bitten the bullet and entered Alfie and Rodaidh for grades one and two spaniel tests with the Gundog Club in December. It'll be pretty full on as I'm doing both tests with both dogs in one day but I'm looking forward to it... time to see if the training has paid off! I know Alfie will be fine and Rodaidh should be as well, bless him, he's not even a year old yet so he's doing well and depending on how we get on here this will be my impetus to think about getting him entered in a few novice trials next year. We're going to be doing a lot of practising in the next couple of weeks! :o :005:
-
Ooooh good luck to both of them :luv: I am always in awe of working dogs seeing as I can't even get Kali to stop whining or jumping up at people!
Can't believe I have never seen any of your dogs in the flesh fur :005:
-
Good luck Nic, I'm sure the boys will do you proud ;)
-
Good luck - But i'm sure you don't need it ;) Here's hoping that both boys are tip top form on the day ;)
-
They'll do fab! Your three are the best trained dogs i've ever met. Rodaidh is amazingly good for his age :luv:
-
best of luck - I'm sure you and the boys will pass with flying colours :luv: :luv: ;)
-
Ohh how exciting, good luck!
If you think you get a lot of offers now imagine the breeding requests you'll have for Mr. Rodaidh with a FTW to his name :o

I might print out a 'responsible breeding' sheet and just hand it out :005:

That's wonderful! :D Best of luck to you and the boys!! (Tho it's not all luck, you've put in a lot of work! :-*)
Don't forget to take someone with you to be the camera person :005:
-
Good Luck, but I don't think you will need it, sure they will do you proud
-
who are you being examined by?
-
Fantastic, all the best for the tests, and hopefully we will see some photos of them in action.

John Henderson in Fife.

You have two clever (and handsome :005: ) boys there with a dedicated mum......that sounds like a recipe for success. :D
All the same it would be rude not to wish you GOOD LUCK! :005:

Well the boys did their tests today and they both passed grades one and two - with distinctions! :D :D :D I'm absolutely over the moon with both of them but especially Rodaidh seeing as he's still not even a year old yet. It was freezing cold and quite nerve wracking with the assessor standing watching my every move and command with his clipboard and pen, and we were in a field which had only been evacuated by a herd of sheep yesterday and was full of rabbit burrows so was heaving with distracting smells but both boys did me proud. Rodaidh in particular outdid himself, according to the assessor he's the youngest dog to pass the grade two so far - and with a distinction :D We got our photo taken for the website (although I hope they don't actually use it!) and have a few more rosettes to add to the collection now :D

Massive well done to you and your boys Nicola, that's a fantastic achievement! :D

Well done Nicola I have been looking at doing these grades with mocha and am practising what the test entails. I am assuming you think that doing the test are a good idea? why did you do the gundog clubs tests as opposed to the KC working tests?

They will do the KC WGC as well (hopefully!) but as it has to be done either on an actual shoot, at a simulated one or at a working test and involves retrieves from water and over obstacles I won't enter Rodaidh in this until he's older, he's still only 11 months and not ready to go on a shoot yet and I'm not going to rush him for the sake of getting a certificate. These GC tests were a better compromise for the age he is now and the stage he's at in his training. Alfie could probably do the WGC now but I'd rather wait and enter them together.
I would recommend these definitely, I didn't go to organised classes beforehand, I just practised the elements in their normal training at home and with Alfie when we've been out beating and picking up but it's been good for them and for me to have something structured to work towards :D
