Alfie came 5th in his first gundog scurry
« on: May 13, 2007, 09:05:13 PM »
Well we had a great time at the BASC Scotland Game and Country Fair yesterday and today. Alfie took part in his first ever proper obstacle course and gundog scurry today and he did really well. He ended up in fifth place in the scurry and I am very, very proud of him  :D :luv:  Especially considering that not only was it his first time but it was also open to dogs of all ages and experience and all breeds so he was up against labs as well as other spaniels. There were quite a few entries, I think about 40 odd in all.

Not too surprisingly the main prizes were all won by labs in the scurry and the obstacle course was won by a hooooge lurcher which practically jumped all the bales at once  :005:  although at one point in the morning Freya's Willow was in first place and Alfie in second which was nice while it lasted

Cazzie's gorgeous lab Belle did REALLY well and won the straight retrieve with rabbit distraction which was amazing  :D :luv:

So all in all a very good couple of days!

Some pics from the obstacle course:

And Willow...

Huge thanks to Mr Luckydogs for taking the pics of Alfie while I was busy shouting 'here here here here here here!' like a woman posessed  :005:

I will post more pics in the photo section.

Well done Nicola and Co very impressive, I watched a scurry last week at the our local game fair, it was very impressive, although I must say that all this work I have been doing with mocha and presenting dummies seems to be a bit over the top as some of the presentations I saw where a little snatchy.  It give me great encouragement that mochs isn't so bad and maybe one day I'll enter him into one to.
Working Cockers aren't mad it's the owners!!!

You definitely should! In the against the clock scurries it's the retrieve and the time that counts. Alfie did a better presentation of the second dummy but the first one was taken as quickly as possible so I could turn him around and send him out again (there were two dummies thrown so he had to mark where both landed, go and retreive the first one and then go back for the second one). The fastest time was just over 16 seconds and Alfie did it in just over 23. I'm sure Mocha would do really well  :D  and it's all fun at the end of the day.
