Puppy socialisation classes age opinions pls
« on: March 22, 2019, 12:07:16 PM »
Hi
what age is ideal to start. I am getting conflicting advice? Some say 16 weeks others week after last jab.
My last spaniel was older pup 16 weeks so this one is younger.
I think he is bored at home and we do have large garden so spend a lot of time out & about. But just alone! So I am trying to learn what's best in your experiences thank you

I would start socialising as soon as possible,  I took my girl to a very dog friendly park as I was confident that I could introduce her to the world gently there.

Are you thinking of Puppy Party's or Training classes ?

You can take your dog out before his jabs, just don,t put him on the ground and mix with other dogs. We took Dylan out shortly after we got him, to get used to the car, carried him along the prom, on the beach, round the shops (outside), met my hairdresser, just to get him used to people and noises. He was eight weeks when we got him, so it would have been a while to wait til two weeks after the jabs, and we are in such a quiet place he wouldn’t,t see anything or anyone. Once he was over his jabs, we took him to puppy classes, so I guess it would have been between three and four months old IIRC. Sooner the better I think.

Enjoy your pup!

Carry him everywhere so he can see the world. I  took mine to the puppy classes before they were allowed out but just sat them on my knee. The training school encouraged this

Thanks v much it's the lack of other Canines in his world, I want him to see other dogs etc at vets another dog was in and he was barking in agreement! I am trying to keep him busy, we go in garden a lot, plenty to see he likes long grass sticks etc & already using clicker to sit, down, come( the last two he did well today but hit miss). Then he completely ignores me and disappears to see chickens and eat their leftovers! Monkey.
Just ordered some chuck it balls about to order another type too. We are v rural so I just often don't see other Dogs or humans on a walk. Thank you. Am looking forward to activities just as much as he will enjoy.
