Bit of an odd question...
« on: March 08, 2010, 05:21:42 PM »
OK, now I know this is rather a strange thing to ask, but hey, if I can't ask my fellow cocker owners I'm not sure WHO to put the question to!

Bracken has quite a long tassle of fur on his winkie (ok, sorry, but I'm trying not to get caught up by firewalls and stuff!). It's about 3 inches long and tends to spread the 'wet' a little bit to the surrounding fur. Would it be all right to cut some of the fur off - say about an inch, leaving him just 2 inches to keep his vital bits warm?

I don't cut it - I believe it's there for a purpose, mostly to stop infection and 'protect' that area.

If Jarv marks on a walk and smells a bit of boy wee I just use a Simple wet wipe on the offending area  ph34r

Same as Livercake, except we use a cotton wool bud in warm water.  ;)

I agree though, in many ways it does seem highly impractical!!!!  :lol2:

I do trim Rodaidh's a bit but I leave enough to cover it and follow the natural shape that's there, I think if you cut it flat you might get 'spraying' issues ph34r :005:  I just take off the ends of the longest bits otherwise they can get a bit sticky :P

You're not the first to ask this question and in the past its been a good split of those who do and those who don't. So its up to you if you think you should, it'll always grow back if it was the wrong decision for your little one.

I seem to be in the minority so far as I trim Morgan's thingy  :shades:

I trimmed Sweep's too. He didn't have any problems afterwards and when it grew back the groomer trimmed it for him again  :003:

I trim Dave's and I used to trim Trev's too, I've never noticed any adverse effects from doing this and neither have ever had an infection. I've got enough nappy changing, poo runs and other grim jobs to do around here without having to shake 'n' wipe Dave's bits after he's been too..  :P Although actually, Normy always helps out in that dept if he's forgotten his own personal hygiene... again :020:
