She was due to see the vet on Monday 24th but I decided to get her in on Friday instead as she seemed to be getting worse before my eyes. The vet took a blood sample right away and although the first one for infections/anaemia came back fine, the second snap test came back positive for Pancreatitis. I think only her knowledge (because she mentioned it as soon as I described Kali's vague symptoms) and the fact that I didn't want to wait, made a difference to the level of seriousness. She doesn't need to be on a drip but she is quite poorly and in some amount of pain. I have different drugs for her and Lord willing, they will head it off at the pass but she keeps jumping so I know she is getting spasms. I sat with her last night because she was in too much pain to sleep. It is awful to see her spinning round because she can't get comfy. Please think good thoughts for her for a quick recovery and that this will be her one and only brush with this illness. :'(

Poor Kali, I hope she soon feels better. I know pancreatitis in humans is very painful so I hope the medication helps her. We have all fingers and paws crossed here that she get better soon.

Thank you so much everyone. It really helps when you know people are rooting for your baby. She had another not so good night. She started snapping at Holly but I am sure it was just pain making her do that. So, Mike took Kali in the caravan to sleep (luckily its on our drive) and I stayed with Holly. We just thought that if she wasn't trying to go up and down stairs and stuff then she may get better quicker. You know every single pain spasm she gets because she jumps out of her skin and then her head swings round to her tummy........ and I feel every one with her. I think she seems just a bit brighter today but not sure if that is wishful thinking or not on my part :-\ Anyway, she has the vet again tomorrow at 10.20am so I am sure they will be able to feel if her pancreas is as sore or not. Fingers crossed because if I ask for nothing else for her, it is for the pain to stop. :'(

I hope Kali will be up and about soon........our old Cocker Lucy had a serious bout of pancreatis when she was about 12 years old and was hospitalised on a drip for 4 days.......on the 5th day she was bouncing around like a pup !!
I know exactly what you are going through and Kali will be ok.........Lucy died last year aged nearly 16 !!! and she never had it again although she was on special food for the rest of her life.

I've just seen this Sheryl - hope she's perking up a bit.....my Siamese had this last year and had a few days on a drip. We had to be very careful with her diet for a while but now she is back to the little minx she was before and has shown no sign of it re-occurring. Lots of cuddles for Kali and hope you're doing ok.....

Back from the vet and things are much improved. She had a good night, not nearly so much jumping and a lot more settled. The vet seems pleased with her too. She is still a bit tender and so has been given another week of Ampicillin to take. He said it may well be something she ate. He cannot be specific about it happening again. He said it may be a one off, she may have a predisposition to getting it again or it may be immune triggered. One good thing was on the first blood test, her platelet count was fine.
Anyway, Kali actually picked up her toy hedgehog today so things are looking up! I have been told to keep a close eye on her when the tablets stop, just in case. She has been put on Hills low fat digestive which didn't please me. He said it may be the Burns that caused this but I seriously doubt that. The only other thing I can think of that I did differently was giving her some well rinsed canned hot dogs as training treats and also some Pet Bakery apple and cinnamon bars. He mentioned fat content but I thought it was the liver dealt with fat and the pancreas with sugar?
Main thing is that Kali is improving. I will start all my research into the whys and wherefores when she is completely better. If anyone can shed any light on it meantime though, I would be grateful. I (and Miss Kali) want to thank everyone who wished her well on here and by text and pm. I know I have said it before but knowing people have big enough hearts to care about someone elses baby, makes you feel less alone.
I am just grateful that for now she seems to be in less pain and that I can breathe again. Of course I am always going to be watching for a relapse but that is maybe not a bad thing. :-\

A colleagues cocker had a bad spell with pancreatitis last year, I will try and catch hold of him tomorrow for some info. ;) All I know is that he went on holiday and returned to his baby being seriously ill with it. :'( However, she is great now, I think she has the occassional flair up but not to the degree she had initially. I will see what I can find out for you.

Fat metabolism is a problem with pancreatitis. Dogs who've been through it need to be on low fat diets for life, and to avoid fatty treats and extras. It doesn't mean she's been given anything "bad", it's just that for various reasons her body cannot cope with what other dogs can handle.

Just caught up with this, Sheryl.
So pleased she is doing so well. I do hope it is just a one-off.
I doubt very much it has been caused by anything she ate, Burns is a good food.
I kow that turkey skin can cause it, but that's almost 100% fat!
