So a couple of weeks ago I noticed something odd about one of Maggie's eyes. Looked to have a "light" spot where I wouldn't be expecting one... after a bit of dodging around I could see she had a grey/white spot on the front of her left eye. She's had no injuries to her eyes or anything so I left it a couple of days to see if there was any change which there wasn't. Took her off to the vets last week and he had a look. He has said its not on her lens so not a cataract - but looks like fatty deposits on the cornea, and that she actually had it on both eyes but a lot fainter on the right eye. To determine what was causing them he took a blood test to see whether she had high cholesterol for instance but also measured all the other fatty type levels in body. Idea being if that came back clear we would get her off to the opthalmologist. Anyway had a call this morning and the bloods have shown elevated levels of all sorts to do with her liver function :(
So taking her back in tomorrow and leaving her there so they can test for Cushings - tho looking at that, I don't think she shows any of the symptons :-\ if that comes back negative then they'll do an ultrasound.
So... not sure what I want the outcome of it all to be really. Just wanna know whats up with my girly... she's fine in herself, but will be distraught tomorrow to be left at the vets :'( So if I can have a bit of COL magic please to make whatever it is simple to fix or at the very least easy to manage.
She's such a character - always lets me know what mood she's in, always pushing the boundaries and just lives with her heart on her sleeve (if she had one!)... with everything else she deals with she could use a dose of good luck!

Well... I left my girl this morning clinging limpet like to the arm of the vet and been bumbling round the house... But she's home now :luv: Got a few patches for blood (you'd think 1, maybe 2, but we seem to have 4!) and now we just wait for the results :-\
Maggie was funny at the vets, practically ignored me, pausing long enough for me to get hold of the lead, dragged me to the car and then proceeded to administer cocker snogs! She's now crashed out and waiting for her lamb ribs for dinner tonight :luv:
Thanks again for all the positive wishes... Maggie thinks you lot are the best - and I tend to take my lead from her :shades: :luv: :-*
Will let you know when we hear results etc ;)

paws crossed anyway, for good news when they do come :bigarmhug: :-*
-
Everything's crossed that you get some positive news today x
-
Thanks for all the support so far - you guys are great :luv:
So had a call from the vet tonight, the test for cushings came back negative. But the bile acid response test, which measures the functional capacity of the liver, came back positive - was high before the food and higher after :-\ Next step is an ultrasound to see whether its a localised problem or a more general problem - will be going to a newer branch of the vets for that as they've newer equipment and someone with more specialised experience reading the ultrasound, should know tomorrow when we can go in for that.
Maggie's soundo, wrapped up in a fleece on the sofa after her hydrotherapy tonight and in blissful ignorance :luv:
Will update once I know some more - thanks again for the support - means an awful lot. xx
-
Hope you get some answers soon :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
Hmm, not an awful lot clearer but you have ruled out Cushings. Hope you get to the bottom of this really soon. :luv:
-
:-\ Poor you Lisa .... still no difinitive answers, so still in limbo for you I guess ph34r
Hope you hear soon & your appointment comes through ASAP ...sounds like Maggie is blissfully unaware of all the happenings :luv: ...unlike her mum however :'(
:bigarmhug: :-* :bigarmhug:
-
Lisa I do hope the vets can get the answers soon and Maggie can get started on some treatment.

Aww Jennie - that gave me a teary eyed laugh :012: :lol2:
I'm not at all knowledgeable about this Lisa but really am keeping everything crossed there's a simple answer to Maggies symptoms & you are given some reassuring news today :bigarmhug: :-* :bigarmhug:
-
Well that all happened a bit quicker than I was expecting.... call from the other surgery this morning and dropped Maggie off for an ultrasound at lunchtime today. One shaved belly (Wendy.... might need a bit of magic blending in in a few weeks!) later and the good news is that he found no abnormal growths to worry about. Her liver is smaller than he would expect tho, and that could be down to a number of things, worst being a chronic hepatitis type problem... but also possibly just genetic. He is going to speak to my normal vet and discuss his findings with all the blood results to define a plan - but he thinks it will be a case of putting her on some liver support medication and rerunning bloods and scan in 6-8 weeks, possibly taking a biopsy of her liver if the bloods indicate a continuing decline inspite of the medication.
So will wait to hear from my vet and then I suspect it will be a waiting game again. Thanks again for your support.... Maggie would say thanks but she's crashed out after being tranquilised with ACP? so they could do the scan :luv:
-
I've only just read about Maggie. Hopefully the vet's diagnosis and treatment will get her sorted out.
They are such a worry aren't they :luv:
Sending you both lots of :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
Glad Maggie is home with her mum :luv: Paws crossed your vet will get her sorted asap! ;)

so, so pleased the scanned showed now nasty growths or serious abnormalities with Maggies liver bless her & hope the meds do the trick in sorting out the irregular blood test reults :luv:
So pleased they told you the results straight away too Lisa & not leave you hanging around for the results :021:
P.S. ...you haven't been leaving your Crabbies around & Maggie having a crafty slurp now & then have you? :005: :015:
-
Sending positive and healing thoughts for Maggie.

Just want you to know that all fingers, paws and hooves crossed here that this is just a transient problem with her liver and that the ultrasound comes back clear:) Its so difficult to not know what's wrong or how serious it is. Hope you get an appointment soon, the waiting is awful. I'm sure it'll be good news :) Cooper sends wags and woofs :)
-
Sorry, somehow I missed your last post :) We in Africa are always a step behind :D So glad they didn't find anything sinister on Maggie's ultrasound :) The hair takes a little while to regrow and they look a bit odd for a while :)
-
Thanks for the update Lisa :shades:
My wish for Maggie would be that its just her shaved belly that needs to regrow :luv: :003:
So pleased to hear she hasn't any nasty tumours & i hope the vet can shed some more light on a diagnose for her :shades: :bigarmhug:

Gentle squidges to you both- glad there were no nasties but sorry there wasnt a definitive answer. So glad she is home with you where she belongs xx PS Fred has been shaved god knows how many times and it is surprising how quickly it grows back so hopefully it wont be long til she is back to her 'usual' self xx
-
Happy to hear that the scan showed nothing untoward and I hope a transient liver problem is the cause and the meds sort her out. :bigarmhug: for both of you.
