How awful for you.  Poor Purdey.  Everything crossed that when you know the reason for the kidney failure something can be done to help.   It seems so unfair when they are such a young age.  Sending  :bigarmhug:
for you.

Hi, I haven't been on here for absolutely ages but I'm hoping I can rely on some good old COL advice and healing thoughts please.

I took Purdey to the vets this morning because she'd been sick a few times in the last week and has lost some weight. I expected them to say I was making a fuss about nothing but he did a blood test and found out she has severe kidney failure - she only has 15% kidney function left. She is only 6yrs old and still very puppy-like and full of beans, and it seems impossible that I'm being told to prepare myself to lose her in a few months!! I'm in pieces!! Anyone got any hopeful stories to share please???

It's a terrible diagnosis to receive, I was devastated when I was told my 13 month old Siamese had poly cystic kidney disease and approx 20% useable kidney.  She lived a very full and happy (loud :shades:) life til 1 week shy of 6 years old but was on medication all of that time - Fortekor which helps organs perform more efficiently I'm told.

Do you know what the underlying cause is, yet? That may alter her prognosis

Chester would regularly be sick, especially while sleeping - it would wake her up as her uric acid (think that's right) would be elevated - she did spend quite a bit of time at the Vet hospital in the first 12 months but thrived on the medication - she never did gain weight and was always very slender.

Actually she would have lived longer on the medication but had a lot of other medical challenges - it was a brain tumour, unrelated to the kidney problem or meds, that killed her in the end.

Wishing You and Purdey many more happy memories x

Hugs from me too :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:  At least the above must give you hope.  Julie & kez
