Oh Lisa  :'( . I'm so sorry that's it's not better news. If they are convinced it's congenital rather than temporary damage from acute poisoning or physical trauma and the kidneys are not filtering, -then it doesn't sound as though there is much more they can do  :'( .

Miracles  do happen sometimes though- so I am keeping my fingers well and truly crossed that one happens for you.  Sending more healing cocker slurps from Fern and big ((((HUGS)))) from me.

I've been doin some research and unfortunately it does look like Harmy has familial nephritis...in which case I am lucky to have had him for this long. Part of my degree is anatomy and physiology and biochemistry, so unfortunately the signs really are bad. Ignorance would have been bliss!
I have spoken to the vet since I have realised the seriousness and he is going to call me everytime he goes to check on Harmy so I can be there too. He gave the choice of taking him off the drip and bringing him home , but I'm going to give it untill Monday I have to give it a chance. If his creatinine levels have not dropped by then then I will bring him home and spend all my time with him untill shows signs of distress (which apart from a bit lethargic, he is not showing any signs of that now)
I will keep you all posted as it is a huge comfort to just type and tell someone. But unless that miracle happens I'll be bringing my boy home on Monday and cuddling him to bits

George and Linus know something is wrong too and are practically attached to my side. So I will have them to ease the pain :luv:, but they are 11 and 9 now...Harmy was supposed to ease the pain of losing them, I just cant believe I'm losing my baby boy.

Zen Dog...he knows not where he is going, for the ocean will decide. Its not the destination....its the glory of the ride.

If only dogs could have dialysis... but that wouldn't be much of a life for him I suppose  :-\
If dogs with renal failure progress like humans then he will probably just get sleepier and sleepier...

Oh poor you, I was rooting for good news for you today.

Sounds very similar circumstances to when I lost my collie.  He didn't have kidney failure but he had a liver tumour.  I was given the chance to take him off the drip and bring him home but he would have only lived 24 hours without so I decided not to.  It was also very sudden, on the Saturday he was running around the garden with me and on the Monday he was PTS.

I know, as a lot of other members on COL do, what a devestating time this is if the worst does happen and we're all here for you.
Love Michele, Mikey and Herbiexx
