Anyone ever used liquid paraffin?? (Result 4.33am)
« on: August 18, 2008, 05:34:41 PM »
We rushed to the vets today as I tried to make Braan sick, then vets tried to make him sick too - blinking dog must have a cast iron stomach  :-\

He has only gone and swollowed a sock in a oner  >:D  :o  ::)

so in the end as the trying to make him sick didn't work (soda crystals) he is now on wet food (Hill's Science plan) and paraffin

The little  >:D hasn't done a motion ALL day and I'm getting worried as he normally has gone by now

Never used liquid paraffin before and am worried about using it - but praying it works as I don't really want to have to put him in for an op, especially as he has the taste to take his own stitches out

positive thoughts this works please

Not with a dog but our vet advised us to use it with one of our cats years ago when he got well... urm a little bit constipated - bless him. It did the trick :D

I've never used it on the dogs but have on horses and it does get them moving again. It's a pretty old fashioned remedy, usually used in colic cases where the horse is badly 'stopped' but it does work. Hoping it works for Braan, norty boy  ph34r :luv:

I had to use it on Vegas & Dallas when they ate a few dvds and tubes of logic gel. X-rays showed lots and lots of nice sharp metal bits so lots of liquid paraffin followed to make it less painful to pass  ::)

Hope the sock makes a reappearance soon  ;)

Poor Braan - I hope the sock puts in an appearance soon  ph34r

Soda made no difference to my two, either; eventually they were given an emetic injection which was outrageously expensive and of similar chemical composition to heroin, apparently ph34r

I'm sure the paraffin will begin to do it's job overnight - s*ds law and all that means you will probably be asleep when he really HAS to go  ph34r

Had to use it on strider when he found, and consumed, part of a turkey carcass in the middle of strensall common  ph34r
Lots of nasty bones stopping him doing his number 2's :005:
It worked like a dream
Hope you have the same result with Braan

The soda crystals have always worked for us but when Vegas ate a load of Rimadyl tablets at work (I do look after my dogs, honest  ph34r :lol2: :lol2:), the vet told me to give him the Apo-go inj instead and by god, was he sick  :o :lol2: :lol2:

Aww Cazza, poor you and poor Braan.  :luv: :luv:
What is it with cockers and sox?  You could always pick him up, turn him upside down and shake him, or failing that put him on the train down here and let him sniff Dominic's feet - if THAT doesn't make him sick, then nothing will  :005: :005:

Hoping it works soon and you don't have to wait up for the sock to make an appearance!

Good luck.

Vet prescribed liquid paraffin for my springer last Christmas when he ate a rubber dog toy (again). It did take a couple of days but eventually it did work and surgery was avoided. When he was 2 he did actually have to have a piece of rubber removed by surgery and we didn't want to repeat that experience. Both dogs have extra strong kongs now. ;)

My parents used liquid paraffin on our cat years ago - fur balls used to be eased through rather quickly as I remember  :005:

I hope the sock makes an appearance soon - and in the garden rather than the living room  ;)

I used to use it on one of my cats years ago

Vet told me make Wilf sick the other night and it was easier than I expected it to be --- I used an empty syringe with concentrated salt water in it and just put it down his throat and he threw up 5 minutes later (then wanted his tea :005:)
