My dog needs to vomit - Updated **
« on: January 03, 2009, 03:27:28 PM »
Hi

Robbie is a sock and glove swallower. Not done it for a while mind you, but on christmas eve he picked up and swallowed a woolly glove whilst out for a walk! Usually he brings it up 5 days later - but as yet nothing. He is still pooping - so no blockage down the way - but is eating a drinking very little. He has tried to vomit a couple of times but nothing comes up.

Is there anything i can do to make him sick? It has to be a better option for him than the operating table!

Any suggestions?

If he's not eating and drinking much then I'd be a bit concerned considering whats he's eaten that it's causing a problem somewhere in his digestive tract.
I think I'd be wanting an vet check and he'd probably suggest an xray.

Liquid paraffin works for helping small socks slide through the other end. Sorry i cant help on helping make him sick, it might be too big once its soggy.

Thanks. Might pop out to shop and try that. Usually comes up the way!
He is still bright and lively considering its been there 10 or 11 days!

I'd really really go see a vet in this situation, especially if it's been so many days and he seems unwell (i.e. not eating/drinking, trying to vomit)  :-\ I'd be scared to death about blockage.

Feeding sauerkraut can induce vomiting as far as I know, but really, best to see a vet at this point? Hope he'll be better soon!

If it were me I would be talking to my vet. Things can change quickly, would hate to hear the poor lad ends up being rushed in to the vets.

A whole wooly glove? Good grief, I'd be panic stricken  ph34r I would honestly say a visit to the vet's, or at the very least a chat on the phone would be a good idea. What if the glove were to cause a blockage?

please please please get him to vets asap the glove could be wrapped round his internal organs my 7 month swallowed a pop sock in one go luckily I saw him pinch it from the washing machine, rang the vets who said to get him to them straight away and they explained he would not pass in or sick it as it was too big they had to operate immediately or else he would have become very ill over the next few days and we would probably have lost him, I am not trying to scare you but having been through it with Archie I would not wish it on my worst enemy take care and I hope everyting turns out ok

My friends dog ate an indestructable dog toy and was fine for about the same length of time by which time he had similar symptoms from what I remember. He needed surgery to have the bits of toy removed.

I have always been advised not to make them vomit in these cirumstances even though it wasn't long after the event as you can make matters worse. Hope he's ok. As others usggest you need advice from a vet as soon as you know there's a problem so they can monitor it

Robbie bright as a button today - wolfing down cooked chicken and scrambled egg! He has had a 10 mile run round the woods this morning and pooing normally. Will phone vet tomorrow for advice!

Thanks all for your concern. Will update tomorrow
