Another season question
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:33:33 PM »
Ruby will be day 14 with no bleeding on sunday, but her bits are still a bit swollen.  :-\

does the swelling have to go completely before she can meet other dogs

Heidi is still a little swollen but her attitude with the boys different, she doesn't cock her tail to one side when scratched and although she is not yet off lead, we have started to take her out again

We have been giving her on lead walks in quiet areas, but i have no boys to see if she feels tarty  :lol2:

I'm desperate to go to a meet on sunday and it will be her first off lead time in weeks,i thought the swelling would have gone down by now  :-\

If i scratch/stroke anywhere near her rear end she doesn't take any notice, though she hasn't all the way through  :-\

Ruby is probably still in season, the average is 21 days.  What happens is from about days 9 - 15 the bleed tails off and can turn pinky/yellowy colour and then normally the redder bleed returns for the last few days.  To be safe with her i would wait until at least 21 days have passed.  You could always take her for lead walks in quiet areas.

Does it take some time for the swelling to go down even when they are supposedly out of season

It has been quite a few weeks since Purdeys season ended and her "bits" have never looked quite the same since!

If it's her first season then it won't shrink back completely to be as tiny as it was  :embarassed:
