URGENT ADVICE NEEDED!!!
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:53:00 PM »
Hi all,
We gave Henry a bone yesterday from a petshop and he somehow managed to eat it all (well most of it), he was ok yesterday and this morning he is very constipated and his poo has bits of bone in it (we think).  He has just started to feel very sorry for himself about an hour ago when we got back from our walk, he is sniffing constantly and he is shaking.  What do I do.  Shall I call the vet yet?

help please

thanks so much guys  :D

I haven't phoned them just yet as he has stopped shaking, he's just done a poo outside and it is now normal-soft consistency (sorry for the graphic info  ph34r).  He has also stopped the sniffing, but still feels very sorry for himself and is now hiding under my desk.  I'm keeping a very close eye on him and will see how he goes, then either call the vet later or if not I think I will take him to the vet tomorrow anyway.

Does that sound sensible?

If it was me, I'd ring the vet anyway just to let them know and ask their advice.

Me too - just in case, even if they don't want to see him at the moment, they will be forwarned if (hopefully not) Henry's condition causes you to worry later on today.

I'd call a vet if he's still unhappy - when Jeff had the stick in his tummy he did poo OK but I could tell he wasn't himself. The vet said that the fact I acted quickly had really helped his outcome. If Henry still has a piece of bone inside it could be very serious  :-\ Good luck  :bigarmhug:

I'd call the vet! Maybe try some Chappie meat- I have often found that helped with constipation, but defintly call the vet!!

how is he now?

have you spoken to the vet?

What sort of bone was it that he had? was it a white filled bone, a roasted bone, a parma ham bone?  (oo can you tell I know the bones sold in pet shops  :shades: i used to work in a pet shop )

If he's had a poop and all the symptoms have gone I'd say he was probably uncomfortable due constipation caused by the bone. I'd stick with a softer diet for a day or two to help things move along and get his poops back to normal.

When Buddy has a bit too much bone he gets very clingy just before passing very hard, bony poos. Once they are out he is right as rain again. He's a real sook.

If Henry has started passing normal stools, and is looking happier, then I wouldn't bother calling the vet. Just give loads of fluids and keep off the bones for a few days.

At least his anal glands should be clear!! ;)
