Milo has a poorly paw/ leg?
« on: June 10, 2007, 06:23:24 PM »
Yesturday I travelled to Oxford as my friend had a Private View at a Gallery and I was attending. Milo and Nancy went to my mum and dads and were happy as larry! My mum always gets them doggy nice treats from Waitrose, veneson sauasges etc. so they love it there!

Anyway when I was travelling home last night I took a call from my dad. He was worried about Milo, who was hobbling on his back leg. He said that if he was jumping up on it  ::) then he was fine, and if he was walking on it he was fine but when he started to run he would lift it. I told him to check it over, for a grass seed or anything like that but he said there was nothing, but when he touches his paw Milo let out a little growl. Milo never growls, we have know that the problem is in the paw. He will let you touch the rest of the leg no problem. As he was staying with my mum and dad last night I told my dad to try and keep him off his paw.

Today I went to pick him up and when he saw me and jumped up  ::) he was fine on his leg. And off he walked to Lee and was fine, but then when he went up the garden he started hobbling. He kind of run hops.

Now he is fine one minute and then lifting his paw the next and walking on three legs.

I can't find a puncture wound or anything on his paw. Well actually he may have ear mites on his paw, but that is not going to cause the hobbling is it.

He isn't wincing or whimpering he just wont walk on it all the time. Any ideas? I can't find anything in the paw at all, but the pain is defo in the paw, I'm sure of it.

I will take him to the vets tomoz if it is no better.

My worry is that the place we walked on friday there were alot of grass darts, although he was fine on friday night :-\

Is it always the same paw? I guess it is.

My suspicion would be his back, but that might bebecause of our current concerns about Buddy. His growl when your Dad touched his paw just might have been caused by the position his leg was held in as he looked at it (if you know what I mean) rather than any tenderness on the foot itself.

Have a good feel down his spine and see if you can find any tension or tenderness there.

I do hope he is soon feeling much better.

I don't think it's his back Annette, and this is a different leg to last time!!! These cockers get us at it ::)

He is totally lame now and is licking at his paw like mad, which suggests to me there is something in it :-\

Off to the V - E - T in the morning.

Actually Milo loves the vet and so do I he id very handsome! Just wish I didn't have to go and see him with a poorly boy in toe.

poor milo.  :'(
are you sure they were ear mites on his paw?????
did you check his ears to see if he has mites there.  has he picked some thing else up from the grass.  been near any fox holes etc they tend to carry red mange .  these are tiny mites.  i had a collie who was for ever fox chasing and as a result had mites on her paws a couple of times turned out to be this.
i wonder if hes hurt a tendon in his leg due to the pain not been there 24/7.
hope vets ok #get well soon milo  :luv:
let us know how he gets on
love fuse n lisa

red mange .  these are tiny mites

Never heard then called that before, we call them Harvest Mites or Bracken Bugs.  When Chloe got them it was all paws though and she never limped :-\  I think they are at their worst late summer/autumn.  If it is these mites, may he have chewed until it is sore?  Whatever it is I hope the vet makes him feel better today

Red mange and  Harvest mites are different things.

I know this site is American but it explains the differences very well.

Fascinating.  So how prevalent is the red mange over here then?  Have to admit to never hearing of it :-\  Still wondering if Lisa meant Harvest mites as the red mange seems to be passed from Mum to pup and nothing to do with other animals   This site is amazing, I know something now that I was unaware of a few minutes ago ;)

I didn't get an appointment for this morning.

Have one for ten past 3 so hope to know more then.

He is a three legged cocker at the moment!

Nancy isn't going to be a happy bunney, when I take Milo to the vets, because she will have to stay in the house on her own, unless my neighbour will have her. Usually I would take her with me but I'm not sure I can juggle Lily, Nancy and trying to help the vet look at Milo's paw, because at the moment I am the only one he will let touch it :luv: I need an extra pair of hands!
