I'm so pleased Milo has been saved an op.  :D

I don't want to be a party pooper but I'm going to be anyway  ph34r. Have you actually seen the grass seed come out :-\ ? If not then do keep an eye out over the next few months-just in case the silica has helped to reduce the inflammation but hasn't actually expelled it. I know nothing about how silica works in this way, so it could have done the trick.

BUT grass seeds can and do travel inwards through the tissues and can get into the bloodstream causing problems at another site later on. It happened to us with Jess, one of our springers and the vet was chasing it all over the place as it kept flaring up. He found it several inches away from the original entry site a few months later. You can imagine what her paw was like after that  :'( .

Hope it has gone, but thought it worth a ment. Lise  ;)

Hiya Happy Dog, I agree with you whole heartedly it does still need an eye kept on it and this is what the vet has said too, but fingers crossed it came out the way it went in!!!! But I do have to say no I didn't not see the offending seed pop out! They are a nightmare grass seeds aren't they >:( xxxx

your poor springer happydog - what a nightmare!

From my understanding Silica can help the body eject a splinter or other foreign matter like  a grass seed - it helps form pus  (nice), which will bring the nasty to the surface...so it doesn't act on reducing the inflammation.

but I agree with being cautious Lise, keep an eye on it, and I would keep on with the silica for a few days....just in case..... ;)
