I've not been on COL for absolutely ages but some of the old-timers still on here may remember that I have two lovely blue roans, Bella and Zorro.
Bella had a small lump removed from her waist about 3 weeks ago and according to everything we read we had about a 95% chance of it being benign. Unfortunately it turned out to be aggressively malignant (the type of tumour they normally get in the mouth or between the toes).
We are off to see a canine oncologist next week to look at options including chemo and the melanoma vaccine, but have been advised all treatments are only palliative as the cancer is terminal. We will need to basically make the difficult decision of whether it's better for her to have possibly double the time but lots of vet visits, blood tests, x-rays etc, or less time without all the visits. There's also a treatment called CV247 which some holistic vets use, which is taken as tablets at home.
Anyway for the moment Bella is doing ok, not as full of beans as usual but she had a huge chunk cut out of her waist when they removed the original tumour so we think that she's still fairly sore. She's on a home made anti cancer diet incl flaxseed oil and cottage cheese.
On the plus side her chest X-rays were clear so there are no big tumours there but the vet has said this doesn't mean there aren't cancer cells there, as they are very hard to spot.
Will update when we have further news.
