Title: Fleas
Post by: MIN on October 04, 2015, 04:03:43 PM
the house is sprayed regularly, the dogs are treated with spot on and tablets. Gemma had no flea evidence on her vet visit on Wednesday. yet today we have caught 3 little shits. poppy dog has none but she does not leave the garden (too wobbly on her legs)
my question is  Can Gemma be bringing them in from her walks
I do not know what else we can do to control them.
ps no flea pooh evidence on Gemma

Yes, Gemma is probably picking them up out and about. With the tablets and spot-on treatment, they have to bite the dog to be killed so the ones you found were probably on their way out of this world. We use seresto collars which have a repellent effect as well as killing any that do hop on board.

Do check that it is ok to use collars and spot ons at the same time - just in case

I know with our cats that frontline has become useless as the fleas have a resistance to it, we have moved onto another brand and things are now ok. Nasty little things!

Do you have a cat ? I think they are the prime candidates for bringing fleas into the home as they get them of all the creatures they catch! Or hedgehogs in the garden ? Is she a rabbit catcher ?

A friend of mine found fleas on her 10 wk old puppy, yet she had had a frontline treatment. Her adult dog was scratching but vet found no sign of fleas on her! I suggested that it may have been the cats fault, maybe bought something in with fleas, or that puppy found a hedgehog in the garden!

Hope you find a solution.

I do not have a cat but there are a couple who roam about.
nothing to report from the last inspection.
gemma is so good, tell her to lie down and she is straight on her back with legs splayed out awaiting for OH to inspect.

I would think she picked them up at the vets >:D

Yes I know they use the strongest of cleaners to kill germs, but just like us sitting in GP waiting room we catch germs.  Have seen the wee jumpy things in evidence in vets surgery and with a cat in a carry box and vets nurse was spraying all around when they'd  carried cat through.

There seem to be a lot of hedgehogs around this year. Whilst that is good they do tend to carry a few hitchhikers about with them which will swap to furries as they go through the undergrowth.
