Spaniel Toupee?

Just took Archie to the groomers & i could cry. Asked to tidy his feathering up & he's come back scalped, theres no fur on his ears legs or belly he looks like they have given him a number 2 all over & almost a poodle tail, the total opposite of what i asked for. Embarrassed to go out now as he no longer looks like a spaniel, let alone the cute one that always get stopped.

Can anyone recommend a hole we can hide in till it grows back were all mortified.

The same happened to Millie this time last year, so we know how you feel...
From being a very curly wurly madam, she came back llike a skinned rabbit.   >:D
I was so shocked I couldnt stop myself from commenting...won't go there again...

It's surprising how quickly the fur can grow back, I would have a word with the groomer ( if you feel able too), they clearly have a different idea to tidy up and may not be used to grooming spaniels, a good groomer will always take time to understand what you want your dog to look like.

If you ever get over the shock it might be a good idea to take photo's with you, that way they can see your expectations.

If you post where you are maybe someone can recomended a good Groomer for the future.

My girl has a number 2 look at the moment, this is also not what I want her to look like but needs must at the moment!

I think I would burst out crying if that happened th Honey. Although I am lucky as I have found a good groomer, and I often get asked where I get her done. But even then, whenever I take her, the groomer always asks if I want to keep her toupe or not and the answers always the same. YES!

Kez is 5 & 1/2,    in the past we have tried goomers only twice, I hated it every time............so purchased all the necessary to do it myself, I have only myself to blame if I don't like it.

the sad thing is we have used them before, he was a little short last time as we had just took him in & the matts had to come out but they left all his feathering as best they could. Im just upset that they didn't listen to what i asked and repeated my self loads. We won't be going back, thick its going to be DIY. Only reason he went in is he's still getting used to being brushed as his previous owners didn't.

Main thing is he's still happy even if were not. Fingers crossed some comes back before he's in kennels in a couple of weeks time.

its a shock isn't it!! the same thing happened to us with Ben when he was about 1.  I almost couldn't believe it was my dog as he looked so different, I just cried  ph34r
it did grow back, and I ended up like others doing my self, its may not look always glamorous but I can cut him to the length I want and no nasty surprises.

 Bet he is still gorgeous  :luv:

If you are going to DIY groom him, If you need help you can bring him over or I can come over to give you a hand until you get what you are doing!

I'm sure he still looks lovely

If it's any consulation, I like Henry without his feathering and a very short cut. It's cooler and doesn't pick up as many twigs, seeds, mud etc. Henry luvs it too, and runs round like maniac for the first few days. :005:

His granny doesn't like it though!

I'll be proud to take Archie out, no need to hide in a hole! Send him up to us.....

It will grow back and Archie will be lovely and cool. I would be more concerned with the groomer ignoring what you asked for and whether you went back or not I would certainly telephone them and tell them you are not happy and why.

Get yourself a grooming table and Andis clippers. (These are the most expensive items you need)  You will also need scissors, combs and other items which are less costly.  You will save an absolute fortune in the long run.  I have been grooming Jazz myself since he was one and its a lovely bonding experience for us.  I would not say he enjoys it, even now, but he will put his front paws onto the grooming table and I lift him up so he knows what's coming.   I always do him over two sessions so its less stressful for both of us.  You can trim as much or as little as you want then and if you do make a mistake it will grown back.

Yes I agree with AndyB, I got the table mainly for brushing then recently bit the bullet and bought trimmers. So glad I did...I have done one major clipper cut, short neck and back kept hairy legs and it turned out not to bad. Might go a bit shorter next time. Lexi was quite use to going on the table it is such a back saver....well worth the money check Amazon.

This how Kez is............but I think it's the primula cheese not me that she loves. :lol2:
