I am relieved to hear it is not just Daisy who had this shocking grooming experience! I'm at the stage where I know she needs another clip but can't face taking her back to either of the two places she was given a "spaniel clip" which turned out to mean a number 2 all over!
How easy is it to learn how to use clippers? I only really need to address her tummy area where some matts occur due to the use of harness. She's happy to be combed all over everywhere else.

You can do it....I started just doing bits at a time, maybe her legs one day and body another day, ears after that. First try and cut the tats out, if you can't tease them apart. Then I attempted her back with the clippers. Not as hard as you think. They have guards but I didn't have much luck with them. They also have a lever on the clipper for long and short...I put them on long and had a go. It was fine. I also bought a pair of thinning scissors covers a multitude of sins. Just thinned the hair after chopping the hair on the legs. Have a go ...you can cut the bits that need it. Not going to groomers again....it all grows again. :-)

Another NO GROOMER here, for the same reason............I think if they find one cotter, they use it as an excuses to shave all over, tht makes the job quicker.

As an ex Pro Groomer I have to stand up for groomers a bit here. We're not all bad and some do their very best to complete a groom to a customers wishes, which from my experience can be hard to determine at times. All I am saying it can be hard for groomers too and they are only human. However the thing about the grooming industry is that anyone can set up as a groomer without any training, qualifications or such and call themselves a pro groomer. There are no regulations.  So this means that you can get a breed specialist who is highly experience and qualified offering the same service as jo blogs down the Rd who has just gone out and bought themselves a pair of clippers and a table nothing more than that. This makes the grooming industry a very mixed bag. I would suggest when you are looking for a groomer you look for experience especially with your breed and maybe qualifications, but for me experience is just as important. Recommendations are also good idea. At the end of the day though it's hair and it will grow back.  :) x
