i posted recently about Penny having watery diarrhoea and slimy poo. By the end of the next day things seemed back to normal so I thought it must have been something she ate. Well since then Penny seemed very much out of sorts - she developed conjunctivitis, seemed extremely tired, taking herself to bed extra early and sitting around instead of interacting joyfully with everyone in the house as she usually does.
Then i noticed she was biting and licking one of her back feet, although not limping.
I took her to the vet last night and the vet shaved away her fur to reveal a huge red lump on the top side of her paw. I was astonished as I groom her fastidiously and I had not noticed it. The vet thinks it is either a tumour, an abcess, or a grass seed, although there is no obvious entry point for a grass seed.
Poor Penny was almost hysterical as the vet put a needle into the centre of the lump without an anaesthetic. Some fluid came out, but not much. The vet then gave her a local anaesthetic and then explored the site to see if she could find anything- such as a grass seed. She couldn't, so sent both of us home with antibiotics and a painkiller.( Penny had these -I had a large alcoholic drink!)
OH has been sitting with Penny most of the day today-you can't do much else when a cocker looks at you so dolefully! We have to go back to the vet tomorrow to get the bandages changed.
I really have no idea whether all these ailments are related. The vet said sometimes skin irritations and stomach irritations are related, and suggested I try a brand of dry food formulated for sensitive skin. She gave me a sample and Penny did deign to try some, although as Ive said before Penny hates dry food.
fingers crossed that this round of antibiotics will clear all these problems up.!
