Molly just bit me
« on: December 18, 2007, 08:11:38 PM »
Well the girls were due their Frontline so had them in the kitchen sat waiting for me to open the packets.

I went to do Molly first and she groweld at me - i thought it may be because Honey was too close so i put Honey behind the gate.

Again i bent down, parted her fur, started squeezing the capsual and she turned very quickly and bit my hand!  :o

I am so shocked - she has never bit me before nor even acted like this when i have been administering the Frontline, she normally just lets me get on with it!!

She only got half the dose on her as i let her through the gate to calm down - she watched while i did Honey and barked constantly while i was with Honey like she was mad with me for touching Honey if that makes sense?!

Dont really understand what just happened   :'(

Sorry I'm not experienced enough to give you advice, but what a shock for you  :'(.  If one of my dogs did that and it was totally out of character I'd check that she isn't injured/in pain for some reason and that was the cause  :-\

Oh Lucy, it's such a shock when it's out of character like that  :-\

I don't know why she did it, but she did warn you with the growl.....and I agree with Sarah about the injury/pain possible link.

Ditto.

The growl was your warning  :-\  Did you bend over her? maybe she was a bit intimidated by it ? I'd give her some space for the next few days and see how she is. It may never happen again, may just be one of those things.

Molo HATES having spot-on administered; he decided after about the third or fourth time that he didn't like it - I have no idea why  :-\

He gets really stress'y, too - if he growls, I back off and wait until he has calmed down (usually while he is asleep some hours later  :005:)

I wouldnt be overly concerned as you have obviously upset/ unintentailly hurt or scared her, I know that I have grabbed a hold of daisy the wrong way or maybe too rough and she has turned round and mouthed by hand (not bitten). Frontlined is not liked in this house and Miss Sweepie is ofski with her tail between her legs and eyes like saucers when she gets a whiff of it  :005:

Thanks for your replies!

I'd check that she isn't injured/in pain for some reason and that was the cause  :-\

She's calmed down now and i've checked her over and there seems to be nothing at all wrong with her!

I don't know why she did it, but she did warn you with the growl

Yes i know  :-\  I just stupidly thought she was growling at Honey

Did you bend over her? maybe she was a bit intimidated by it ?

Yes, i always stand over her with both of my legs either side of her body - maybe i just scared her today??

I back off and wait until he has calmed down (usually while he is asleep some hours later  :005:)

Might try her again tomorrow night when she's asleep - give her some space tonight!

Thank you again  ;) :luv:

xx

It's not stupid at all  ;)  If she's not usually growly towards you then it's understandable why you thought it was aimed at Honey.

Did you bend over her? maybe she was a bit intimidated by it ?

Yes probably, she may have felt a bit too enclosed. If it was me then next time I'd keep my voice very very light and happy and maybe get someone to feed her treats whilst you get on with it

agree with Mark and Jan, and especially agree with the 'it's not stupid at all' bit ;)  You live and learn with dogs - mine teaches me something new most days  :D
