APPEAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT INJURED PUPPY - PLEASE SHARE

STOCKTON Council is appealing for information after an injured puppy found abandoned in a hedge in Yarm had to have a leg amputated.

The male cocker spaniel pup was found cold, lethargic and covered in oil and dirt in The Larun Beat at 8.45am on Friday.

The Council’s Animal Welfare officers were alerted and took the dog to a vet, where X-rays revealed a dislocation in its front right leg.

The dog underwent an operation to save the leg today but unfortunately the surgeon was left with no option but to amputate it.

Charity, Dogs Trust, has agreed to fund the treatment and will also take steps to find the dog a new home.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said: “The puppy is being well cared for now but we are very keen to find out who owned the dog or saw anything suspicious prior to the dog being found.

“We need to investigate whether any offences have been committed because the vet believes it may have suffered the dislocated leg three to four weeks ago and should have received appropriate veterinary attention at that time.

“We are keen to establish how and when the injury happened and are appealing for anyone who may have information to get in touch with us in confidence.”

Councillor Nelson added: “Our Animal Welfare staff have nursed the dog round the clock since Friday and our close working partnership with Dogs Trust, who have been absolutely brilliant with their assistance, will ensure the long term welfare of the dog.”

Anyone who is struggling to look after a pet is urged to seek advice or assistance at an early stage from the Council’s Animal Welfare Service, or another animal organisation.

Anyone who has any information regarding the stray dog can call the Council’s Animal Welfare Service on (01642) 526575.

:'( Poor little scrap. I wonder if he somehow escaped from a new home? He's tiny. I don't like to think about the possibility that he was dumped.

 :'(  :'(

Poor little scrap.  I dread to think how this injury came about.  Awful what he has suffered in just a few weeks of life.  Everything crossed for a very happy outcome for this lovely boy.

I wondered if a breeder might recognise him.  He's very young so could only recently have gone to a new home...

I wonder if an uncaring breeder dumped him, knowing that the poor little chap was injured and wouldn't be easy to sell.

They probably can't rehome him yet, a. because they are still investigating what happened to him, b. he will take some time to recover from the op.  :-\

Cried reading this, the poor poor baby. I wish everyone was like us here. I just want to wrap him up and cuddle him & tell him the worlds good fun and tell him it will get better.

If they are rehoming him were keen to be adopted by that beautiful wee soul.  :'(

This pup would now be in the care of the Dogs trust somewhere as they were not only funding treatment but rehoming the pup and the 7 days statutory time is up now
