Fink I've done somethin' serious here, I seem to have gaps all over the place, I can't even run a restore :( .

Anyone got any idea how to fix this, or should I just go straight for professional help?

I think you need to tell us a wee bit more

What do you mean "gaps" do you blank spacesd on your screen? Is it associated just with internet browsing or anything etc. Have you recently run a full system sweep of adaware, spybot, AV etc etc?

What happens if you reboot it (even cold boot).

What is cold boot?

It won't let me restore all the System Tool buttons are just dead.

I got a message that said a recovery had been activated, but that files had been recovered effectively.

It just doesn't feel right - it's not recognising my media player either - blank stare, sorry!!

I wonder if youve got what I had. Sounds similar, I think I had a worm or trojan and it even disabled norton. I did a ful system restore, and just had to reinstall everything. I'm going to create restore points every week now.
