Windows Vista
« on: March 28, 2007, 09:34:13 AM »
I wondered if anyone had upgraded to Windows Vista yet?, we got a new Dell PC a few months ago and it came with a free Vista Home Premium Upgrade. I had to apply for the upgrade online and it only arrived the other morning but i haven't installed it yet.  :-\

Just wondered whether it is any good or not and are there any compatibility issues or other problems with it?  :D

on the BBC radio Essex this morning the presenter was saying he has had lots of problems with his printer and modem, seemingly the vista software is so new he cant get a printer, the manufactrer say they will have a compatible printer in 8 - 10 weeks,

i dont  know how reliable this info is but if its true there will be lots of probles as vista seems to be everywhere now,
good luck

My son was telling me the other day (he is a programmer) that he bought it.  He installed it and found some problems, wiped it, re-installed it and gave up.  He says it is great but he is going to wait until Microsoft iron out all the wrinkles in it (then he said something about patches?) before he bothers using it.  All that means nothing to me but maybe you will understand ph34r

It's usually best to wait until the new version of Windows has been around a while. Microsoft released patches to iron out the problems. WIndows XP was much the same when it first came out.  ;)

Thanks all  :D

You all said the same as i kind of suspected - that it would have its problems as its so new  :-\ , i don't really have the time to deal with it now anyway and i have enough other problems to deal with with out creating new ones   :005: so i think I'll wait a bit to install it then, as least i have it ready   ;)

Hi. I purchased a new laptop 3 weeks ago which had Vista already installed.

I like it a lot - navigation is very easy, the cosmetics are nice on the eye and it has lots of little extras.  However, at the moment I cannot use my printer to its full capacity until the updates have been released and I am having problems with a couple of software tools that I use for my business.

It's not too much of a problem however and the new updates should be released soon.

Maria.

We bought a new PC this week and it had windows vista installed. Very excited we assembled it all and I proceeded to install AOL only to find it would not work. I now have to get a new AOL installation disc they have made especially for vista AOL 9 VR but have also found out my modem will not work.

So to cut a long story short I am still using the old PC and have upgraded my broadband to wireless (something I was planning anyway) just waiting for a new modem that will work.

It's the ethereal(not sure if spelt right) ones that are ok with vista. The ADSL modems are not compatible.

We (the company) are avoiding Vista at the moment as a lot of our specialist software simply can't run on Vista at the moment. We bought some new hardware recently and it was a bit of pain sourcing the kit we needed as it had to come without Vista (XP Pro SP2 for us.)
The comments I've heard about Vista are generally about the lack of drivers for certain peripheral devices, so it's worth checking with the manufacturers that your printer/modems/webcams etc etc will work with Vista otherwise your upgrade could end up being a costly one if you need to buy all new devices on top of software.

I got a new laptop with vista already on, and I love it. No problems so far - but need to connect to internet to ensure I am getting all the downloads.

I am not using it as my main PC though and because it is a laptop have not tried putting a whole lot of additional software on ;)

I bought a new laptop yesterday with Vista Home Premium. Connected to the 'Net within seconds and up to now I love it. Installed Office 2003 seems OK. Haven't tried to connect a printer though. iPod works OK too.
