I'm not sure if Richard Hammond will be there or not - hasn't he got a chat show in the afternoons now so maybe he is too "big" a star for Crufts now. I'm taller than he is - found that out when I stood next to him last year by one of the rings

Yes I saw most of it Michele, it was excellent.  I've always liked Ben Fogle so I think it's a must that I go to Crufts on the Saturday if I can't make the Sunday now B)  Shame he won't have his rowing partner with him...phwoar, James Cracknell was pleasant viewing too  :luv:

The programme with Ben and James was fantastic - such a brave thing to do with not alot of prep. Still think Richie would be better for crufts too but I'll have to wait and see what the coverage is like.

Thanks for th info on the TV coverage. I'll have to set the video though as we are on holiday unitl the 10th! Somewhere warmer than here though!!

I agree - I fell for him when he was a Castaway - I am so pleased his potential was seen and he now has a career in TV. Some of his dads books/articles are good too  ;)

I will be glued to Crufts on TV - perhaps I can convince my daughter to watch with me; that will be the last straw for OH, I think

I see it mentions in todays Dog World that Ben Fogle owns a labrador and has bred a litter. I wonder if he got his Dad to help with the whelping  :005: That in itself should give him fairly good grounding, better than Phillipa (lets go look at the cutesy wootsy doggie woggies) Forrester  >:(

Thanks for the times Jane.  My OH dreads Crufts cos me and my daughter are glued to the telly  :005:

I said to him he should be grateful cos I could've just gone to Crufts instead and he said we could have gone no problem !!!!

Melody is too young for that this year I think but you'll have to keep me informed of what to do (hotel booking & tickets etc) for going along next year.

What was funny was though some of the people that said it to me were parents from my class!!! I swear I haven't mentioned it to my children at all, very strange. I will be rembered as the mad dog woman when my classes get to there 20's and start reminising about there teachers!!

Yogi and Daniel do seem to have a very special bond.  I loved it when Yogi was pulling Daniel's socks off  :luv:  What a beautiful dog with such a soulful expression,

We have voted for Jess and Shadow, 'cos we've met them and they have a special bond too, although I don't think it came across so clearly on the TV programme.  They go to our Dog School, but are not in our class. Shadow was a street dog in Ireland and has found a true friend for life in Jess.

To be honest, all the dogs featured are very special - what a pity there can only be one winner.  I think they are all winners.  Can't wait to see them all on Sunday evening when Tills and Ems are in the Friends for Life parade.  Rehearsal tomorrow - can't wait!

Have to say I was disappointed with Ben, at one point he referred to the winner of the Pastoral group as a 'she' when it's a dog.
Unless he was reading from the autocue he fluffed his lines, and even though he was wearing his glasses I found the way he squinted at the camera annoying.

Let's just hope it was first day nerves   ::)

Here here Michele I'm afraid I have to agree with you and say that I too was disappointed with Mr Fogle  :'( :'(  He also came out with some other comment about the Australia Shepherd which was totally wrong.   The squinting was annoying and he looked so nervous not like him at all.  Fingers crossed that after he sees me tomorrow his nerves will go  ;) :-* :-*

I wasn't impressed by Mr Fogle either, but I was going to givehim the benifit of the doubt before I said anything but what the hell!! I was a little embarrised for him at points! Firstly when he was calling the bitch a dog and then when he said "and that all from me and this erm Austrailn (pause) er dog from California........" Clearly he couldn't remeber what breed the dog was...oooops sligh faux pas!!

CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE, hope it was just nervous  :-\

Yes - defintely. He may be short and has not got such interesting hair as BF (I like sticky up hair...) but he's much more natural and seems to know loads more. But then I've only had a dog for 2 months so who am I to throw eggs ::)

I fell in love with the Otterhound. Not seen one before and I love hairy dogs (we had a bearded collie as kids). :luv:

I thought he was marginally better tonight, but he really has been thrown in at the deep end and has not done sufficient homework. :007:
Interviewing the owner of the Wire Fox Terrier and congratulating him on winning "the event earlier" (Terrier Group) really isn't good enough. There are seven groups, that in itself shouldn't be too hard to remember. I know I'm being tough on him, and I normally enjoy watching what he presents, but he is out of his depth here. I think Joe Public will love him for his lovely doggies type approach.

Richard Hammond was ok, but bring back Clare Balding, she really kept her cool and knew what she was talking about. Of course this isn't Ben's fault but the BBC, as once again our only televised event of the dog showing year is ridiculed.

Off my soap box now  :ranting:

My faves last night were the wire haired fox terrier, and all the Dachsises, I LOOOOOOOVE them, but they'd be no good in this house with my mad cockers, poor little things'd get squashed and hurt xxxxxx

We were waiting in the Collecting Ring behind the Main Show Ring  last night and formed a "Guard of Honour" as the Hound Group finalists left the ring and passed through us.  It was interesting to see these top dogs close-up and some of their owners were in tears - wonder if it was the emotion of the occasion or that they hadn't won?

We had a long rehearsal (until 9.15  :o), but I think the "Friends for Life" section on Sunday will be brilliant - very moving.  Tilly was an absolute star and got lots of cuddles from everyone she met.  Despite the crowds, her tail didn't stop wagging  :luv:.

There are two cockers in the Parade - Tilly (of course) and a lovely orange roan.  I will try to find out his/her name at tonight's rehearsal.  Emily is the only child in the Parade  :shades:.

Hope it doesn't snow tonight!

Black Angel I think you can buy a dvd from the kennel club website which is a recording of the programmes, but not 100 % sure, there defo is a dvd of some kind you can buy.

My mum has just phoned me and been ranting about how rubbish ben foggle is! It seems he's not very popular at the Crufts job!

I must admit I like BF but he's not doing to great at this Crufts business :-\ Methinks a bit more prep beforehand would be a good thing for him :-\

Good Luck to Emily and Tilly tomorrow :D !
We had a great time yesterday, took 4 hours to get home tho  >:D (was even worse on the way ome on Thursday!). Have to say that Thursday has been the busiest day that I’ve seen for a long time - it really was packed!!! Enjoy helping out of the college stand tho.
Despite been benched next to the special events ring yesterday (which was VERY loud!) and Dixie being very naughty, I was still very proud of him! We managed to get shortlisted out of a huge class of 28 to the last 7 :shades: .
Looking forward to tomorrow, hope your feeling better Sue! Becki's got sore ribs  :005: self inflicted as she did 200 and od sit ups in a bleep test in P.E   ::)
Edited to add...Helen, as I walked in on Thurday, I bumped into me fav presenter in the world  :005: BF  (speaks just the same in real life lol - and the hair is hugE!) and he was draggin his granny trolley, sorry Michelle  :rofl1: hehe.

I liked the story about the Chesapeake Bay Retriever that got BOB - he ate an entire 18lb turkey raw, leaving his owners with no food on Christmas Day. Maybe Cockers aren't the greediest breed after all.

Although Ben Fogle wasn't the best presenter in the world, his fluffs were kind of endearing  :luv:  The Companion competition was fab.  I was an absolute mess  :'(
Daniel and Yogi, you are stars!!!  ;)

Well done BBC, thought the coverage this year was brill!!!  :D

I was in tears in parts as well, Esp when the little boy with Yogi, started crying, i was sobbing.

However, i didn't enjoy watching Ben  one bit. I am sorry, I thought it was cringe worthy. There was too much chatting about stuff, and I wanted to see more dogs !!

did i miss interpret  :-\ or did Ben Fogle talk about calming Inca down and her having a litter in the same breathe? I hope I'm wrong, because that'll give people ideas about calming their bitches down if they have a litter............an old wives tale!!!!!

As for Speedy ha ha ha Speedy by name but not by nature! That was hilarious!!!  :005:  :005:

No!! he said she calmed down when she was about one  ;) Inca has had a litter though, i'm sure he said the pups were about two. Inca must be at least 10 now, because he had her on tarransey, and that was ages ago.

Somebody had asked at what age had Inca had calmed down.  He said that she was about 12 months  :o and then said but she had puppies last year and they are still bonkers and they are nearly 2 now!!!  (I'm not sure his maths is too hot!!  ::))

Yes, she definatley has had a litter, scroll down to Incas bit

http://www.benfogle.com/biography.php

I think a lot of what Ben has said on Crufts has been misinterpreted, I don't mean by you guys, but someone had emailed in saying that he was irresponsible telling people to give their dog chocolate, Ben *Clearly* stated that the easter egg was for dogs ::)  Grr some people ::)

I've just watched tonights show and extended coverage - all in the wrong order, cos it was recorded - Well done -  Emily and Tilly, brilliant (http://img149.exs.cx/img149/8608/bouncingsmilie8mk.gif)

I haven't watched all the programmes yet (still recorded) - but was surprised at Ben tbh; I now wonder how many "takes" he does for Countryfile  :005: Too many Umms and ahhs for my liking  ::)

Highlights from tonight for me were Speedy (wonderful dog); seeing Jasper, and hearing him praised so highly - it was good to hear the working/show split refered to in the commentry, too :)
Yogi and Daniel were just wonderful, I was a total wreck, too - but didn't Yogi take it all in his stride, such a brilliant companion  :luv: I think the Pals with Paws programme is amazing  :D
Finally, Mary Ray and her heelwork to music is amazing, I am in awe of her and the way she trained her wonderful dogs :)

Your wishing your life away Barbs - it was 2000, wasn't it - I think Inca had her litter at age 4  ;)

Was it only six year ago!! blimy i thought it was a lot longer than that. That makes Inca the same age as Nell.

I fell about laughing at Speedy, he was hysterical  :005: and i cried buckets at the young boy and Yogi, they were all deserving winners, but a boy and his dog, gets my vote everytime. ;)

Ben Fogle was starting to get on my nerves, I'd have thought by the 3rd or 4th day he's have sorted his nerves out too.  Nevermind - I wasn't the one in front of the camera - not sure I could have done any better  ph34r

Loved the dog that got BIS but my daughter wasn't impressed that he was constantly eating the dog's biscuit, lol.  Once she pointed it out to me I noticed it too - he was only giving the dog wee bits and chwing the rest himself, even when talking to the judge afterwards.  EEwwwwwww, is it just me or is that not nice  :005:

I don't think he was actually eating the biscuit, but gesturing to the dog to maintain its interest  ;)

Oh right  :005: I just thought I saw him nibbling it too and he was still chewing when he'd taken it out of his mouth.

Its a bit of a hot topic in this house, we're always telling the kids not to share their food with Melody  ;)
