Colour Not Recognised By Kc ?
« on: September 27, 2014, 04:38:42 PM »
I've been looking at my girls pedigree on My KC, there is a litter in her ancestry with two dogs born in 2010 classed as Colour Not Recognised By Kc,

Is this Merle ?

I've also noticed a litter in 2009 all where White & Blue Roan , i cannot see this colour on any cocker sites ?

this thread will tell you more -

I'd say that the colours not recognised are most likely to be sable particolours.

Thanks Helen, I'm glad I'm not thinking of becoming a breeder!

I have only met one sable blue roan, he is beautiful  :luv: and owned by 7733lily

Are there any more owners of sable cockers on here, I would love to see some photos especially of Solid sables as I am a little confused of the colouring.

Any idea of the White & Blue Roan, can a Roan have white areas ?

I think that would have been a breeder that was trying to differentiate between dark blue roan and light blue roan.  As long as the colours are on the approved list they can go down and I guess whoever was on duty that day thought it was ok as white & blue roan are both on the list  ;)

This is the current list of approved colours for registration:

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/breed/colours.aspx?id=2052

"White and blue roan" wouldn't be accepted today but in the past the breeder could put any colour they like down and it would have been accepted (things like "champagne", "apricot" and "strawberry roan" have all been accepted in years gone by but would not be today). Sable is currently listed but I believe this is going to change to "sable-not KC recognised" for future registrations.

Thanks Jane and Helen,

Sounds like they where a litter of light blue Roans, on the Colour Not Recognised that also sounds like Sable, it's amaizing what information you can find when you go looking.

Thanks again

Sharon.
