Sable Cockers
« on: June 13, 2004, 12:28:39 AM »
This is probably something that JaneS could answer for me.

Out of interest, what is a Sable cocker classed as (solid/parti)?  And what would you breed it with ie another sable etc.

Just wondered, seen pics of them and think they are unusual and know that the breeder of finn's sire has one.

Just puzzled me really, not intending on getting one or breeding etc just wondered.

Hi Nikki

They are classed as Solids as far as I'm aware.  You would breed it with any of the other Solid colours.

Sables are very very rare in this country - you see them more on the continent. Sable afaik can be either solid or particolour - where white will appear but not just as a fleck on the chest which would prob still rate it as solid.

Thanks for that - it was just something i wanted to find out, you know how it is when you think of something and need to know the answer.

I think sables look unusual and as they are cockers you gotta love em, it's not a colour I would of thought of choosing if they were available over here already.

Think I still prefer black, golds and black/tans personally, though pete really loves blue roans - gives me the perfect excuse to have a house full of cockers - do you think one of each colour would be enough

If you want to be sure to get sables you can breed them either to other sables or to red.

Try have a look at this page
