Title: Eggs!!
Post by: lisa175 on April 03, 2007, 10:57:54 AM
I know that this has probably been asked many times, but I am thinking of giving Jimbo raw egg in his dry food to spice it up a bit.  He has three meals a day with meat once a day mixed into his dry food aswell as biscuits and treats throughout the day.  I know what harm raw eggs do to humans but I assume that they don't have the same effect on dogs.  Just a bit concerned that it might give him the runs or make him sick!  Anyone else had these concerns? :D

I give Melody a couple of raw eggs a week.  She loves them over her food but she prefers to take them outside in the shell and devour them on the grass.  The only problems we have is eggy ears  :-\ :005:

Baggins and Phoebe get raw eggs twice a week as part of their Barf DIET. Good for their coat, so I am told As far as I am aware eggs are a good binding agent ph34r so the runs shouldnt be a problem.

I gave Baxter a raw egg (in its shell) for the first time the other day.. he carried his new 'toy' around for ages... brought it down onto the patio wagging his tail and dropped it for me to 'throw' for him... the look on his face when he realised he had 'broken' his toy was priceless!... but he was soon happy again when he realised he had a yummy treat to lick up instead!

... and I can sympathise with 'eggy ears'!!

I think dogs' gut bacteria is a lot stronger than ours and can cope with stuff our tummies can't?

I give mine the odd raw egg with shell occasionally as well and have never had any problems

If they ever have runny bums I will scramble them with a bit of water, which often helps

Mine have raw eggs now and again although Woody does carry his around for ages before actually breaking the shell and wonders why he is not allowed indoors until he's eaten it  :005: I put their ears up in scrunchies or they get yucky

I've never given Max raw egg, but he'd probably just go & bury it  ::)

Coco has a raw egg in her food a couple of times a week.  Unfortunately she doesn't like the shell even when I try and hide it in her sardines so she just has the runny bit and loves it ;)

Awwww, the lovely Jarv...  :luv:

Bella (aka Queen B - there really should be a smiley with a crown on this site) loves raw eggs but does not deign to eat the shellsas she is a lady of discerning tastes.

Zorro (aka canine dustbin) eats the egg plus shell and then eats Bella's shell as well. In fact if I'm making scrambled egg I give him the shells as a yummy (not sure why, I can't think of anything more revolting than chewing up an eggshell myself! ph34r) treat.  :D

Didn't know about giving dogs raw eggs, so Pop's has had her first mixed in with her tea.
Didn't give her the shell this time...I want to "break" her in gently... ;)

Just gave Pop's her second raw egg mixed in with her tea!

Before her tea I gave her the empty shell but she never ate it, just crunched it up into tiny pieces and left it... >:(
