why wont my 7 year old mal cocker eat?
« on: March 21, 2011, 07:21:58 PM »
My 7 year old male cocker spaniel has not eaten a proper meal for nearly a month he just looks at his dinner and walks away.  I have tried everything he is even now not eating his biscuits and treats.  He is healthy and fit just hungry!!  Any suggestions greatly received. :'(

No he seems fine in himself, i tried introducing dried food into his diet about a month ago, just a small handfull and he refused to eat it, since then he just is not interested in his food.  I hav warming it to generate smell but not interested.  He really just does not seem interested in food, has never been a good eater, but really now not eating anything.

Has he been checked out by a vet?  There may be a reason why he's stopped eating, there may be something wrong with his mouth/throat area.  If he's not even eating treats now, I'd be making an appointment ASAP.  Is he drinking OK?  What food had he previously been fed on?  What have you been trying out recently?  Lesley

Drinking fine, was feeding him pedigree pouches, but wanted to introduce dried food, tried wagg and applaws.  Have checked his mouth and gums and he takes his vitamins tablets OK so mouth seems fine.

Have you tried putting him back on the pedigree pouches  to see if its just a case of he won't eat the new food rather than he won't eat? What has he been eating if he's not eating his meals? A healthy dog won't starve themselves so I'd make an appointment to get him checked over by a vet - if he's hungry like you say and still not eating, then getting his mouth checked would be the first thing and possibly even a blood test to check his organ function.
