Amy has had her Cataract operation
« on: April 26, 2016, 08:13:17 AM »
Amy had her right eye cataract removed yesterday to say we were a little worried was an understatement

Amy is 12 & in a matter of 12 months lost nearly all her sight in her right eye due to a cataract her left eye also developed a cataract but is progressing slowly, Amy went from being a very confident happy spaniel that loved agility to being very stressed & unsure about things within a very short time.

After many visits to the Eye Vet & monitoring & medication to slow the progress down we decided to go ahead & have her right eye cataract removed big decision with risks but we felt we needed to try & save her some sight.

Well 24 hours on Amy is amazing taking the rigors of all the drops to help keep infection down & pressures apart from the bucket on her head she is doing very well but the amazing thing is how already she has realised she can see a lot better her confidence has improved you can tell how she is now trotting around.

I can see we are going to have issues in keeping her calm  as it looks like it has taken years off her  :luv:

Its a long haul for recovery to ensure a good success rate but looking at her little expression today I know we have done the right thing.

Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!

 Such a good outcome. My first spaniel lost his sight and there was nothing to be done thirty years ago. Really pleased it's been a success! WTG Amy!

Bosley had this done last year in one eye (he was only 2 though) and it was hard at 1st as I had to send one of my dogs into kennels to keep him calm + he was hard to walk onlead (he's a sprocker to heavier than the cockers) + wish I'd thought to reduce his diet too. He ended up longer onlead as he was a young dog but think other older dogs are allowed offlead sooner.

I had Boz's done for similar reasons as even though it was only one eye he doesn't have much confidence and it made him worse losign the sight in that eye

Good luck with the progress and the appointments
