Smithy has been in foster with me for 4 weeks.  He is a 6yr old gentle cocker, adjusting well to his new world.  He gets on with the dogs and cats living here and is far happier now when meeting people when out on his wood walks.  There is an update + video of him on the Many Tears site if anyone on here has the know how to transfer it.

Another poor little fellow who will now have the chance of a great new life in a home where he will be loved and treated as all dogs should be.

Smithy is off-lead in the woods now!  At last he is becoming the 'proper' cocker he was born to be.  A video update on him should be on the MT site soon.  He has had quite a bit of interest from lovely people, but Smithy does need a steady resident dog for company and as a role model.  Smithy's perfect forever home is out there somewhere - his perfect forever family just don't realise it yet.

A kind resident dog is so important. I have come to realise this watching Annie and Buster. Annie has made huge strides forward, but only because she is able to follow Buster and because he will actively encourage and reassure her. There was a marvelous incident yesterday when Annie was frightened of a new baby-gate being put up to keep her safe in the night if she wanders. She went and brought her 'Uncle Buster' who came (with Annie hiding behind him) and checked it out, gave her a friendly reassuring nuzzle and from then she has been fine. We would be quite wrong if we thought that dogs do not have significant and subtle communications between themselves.

Smithy will need the same in his new home, although he is clearly benefiting from the other dogs in his foster home.

Smithy's latest update video now on the MT site.  He is becoming a 'proper cocker spaniel'.
