Morgan: working cocker boy, Battersea Dogs Home, Windsor
« on: June 09, 2007, 08:53:41 PM »
http://www.dogshome.org/rehome/our_dogs/morgan.html

Morgan was brought to Battersea by his owners due to ill health in the family, they could no longer offer him or his doggy friends the care they needed. On arrival to Battersea Morgan was very frightened and confused, he did take time to settle and gain confidence around new people. Morgan will need patient and understanding owners as he may take time to settle in his new home and bond.

Although Morgan is 5 years of age he has received little or no training in the past, he will need all basic training from scratch and this may include housetraining as Morgan did spend most of his time outside and not in a home environment previously. Morgan has been used to car travel and is happy in a vehicle. In his previous home Morgan did escape from the garden so he will need a secure fenced garden, ideally the fencing will need to be over 5-6ft to prevent Morgan going sight seeing.

Ideally Morgan is looking for experienced rescue dog owners prepared to put the work in required, knowledge of Spaniels or similar active breeds would be an advantage. unfortunately Morgan would not make an ideal dog for a first time dog owner or for the less active home wanting a quiet lapdog companion. Spaniels were bred as gundogs so are naturally active and intelligent dogs, Morgan is no exception and will need owners who enjoy the outdoors and walking.

Morgan is a great little dog but does require consistent training and time dedicated to him initially so he cannot live with other dogs, cats or children. Once settled and fully housetrained Morgan could possibly be left alone for short periods, his previous owners did say he was vocal when left alone but we have not seen any of this behaviour during his stay in kennels. Due to his coat type Morgan will need regular grooming and possible visits to a parlour so new owners must be prepared for this.

In experienced hands and with guidance Morgan will make a fun and loving addition, he is a great little dog with lots of potential. If you feel you can offer him the home he needs please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443 or come in to one of our centres for a registration interview.

I met Morgan last week - imo, he has definitely got show cocker in his ancestry ;)

He was a typical "gobby cocker" when I saw him  ::) and he is very handome and very waggy - I am sure in the right hands he would make someone a fabulous companion  :D
